We here are Keighley Cougars are sad to announce that hooker Jamaine Wray has been released from his contract with immediate effect following a mutual agreement between the two parties.

Jamaine, nicknamed Killer, joined the club in 2009 following a spell at the York City Knights.

He went onto to play a part in the clubs Championship One Play Off Trimuphs in both 2009 and 2011 and stayed with the club during our relegation season from the Championship in 2010 despite entering adminsitration.

After finding chances limited down at Cougar Park recently, Jamaine and the club agreed to terminate the Jamaican's contract.

Everyone here at Keighley Cougars wishes Jamaine the very best for the future.

All the best to him at Hunslet Warriors.

Thought he quit through injury?

So did i. I have to admit its come as a bit of a shock to see he is leaving to play for someone else.

He announced his retirement afew weeks ago on facebook, due to injury.

Limited chance's?, give up, think we all know a fully fit Jamaine Wray would have been playing week in, week out this season.

And he joined the club in 2008, not 2009.

If the club are going to talk to this message board through [iHello Trouble![/i and [iThe ClubsVoice[/i, at least give us some respect for our intelligence and rugby knowledge. We have seen Jamaine destroy the best of defences and the term [i"limited chances"[/i just does not wash.

If you had qualified that by saying he had an injury, found the training too much at this level, or was simply disenchanted with championship RL, we would understand, but your statement just smacks of club spin.

I'm all for supporting the club and players in most things they do and have been vocal in their defence, but if you talk to fans like numpties you'll just get our backs up.

Great guy both on and off the pitch. He will be missed.
I remember the season when he was denied about 6 or 7 times after he had crossed the white line.
I also remember the first time I missed a game. I was in hospital and Killer messaged me to get well
soon and said, Don't worry we will defo win!!!. It was the away at Whitebank.........

Hello Trouble! has only published the information passed onto him. Unfortunately, he does not have the time to look at a former players Facebook.

We would also like to iterate that we are here to answer questions and post information in regards to the club.

What an absolute joke.

He stated on facebook 8th Feb he was retiring fRom the game as his
knee would not heal properly.

Last week he said he was playing for Dewsbury Celtic

It has been known by a fair few people that he will be playing for Hunslet Hawks next seasen.

Strange excuse for letting him go KEIlGHLEY Cougars or was it just a case of ' his face didn't fit '.

Sometimes things are never quite as simple as some would have it. No doubt there are different perceptions about what has happened with Killer over recnet months - there are no doubt several sides to the story. Things may not work out for some players - but the club must always be bigger.

If that's the case, it might have helped if the club statement had been more carefully considered. A simple qualification as to why he had "limited chances" would have sufficed.


I for one think it's good that the club have an official voice on here but you must remember that this board is not an appreciation society. There are wide opinions about anything and everything and you won't please all of the people all of the time. The club will not like some of the views that are expressed on here, but then that's freedom of speech

I know the club are going to "spin" statements to it's advantage (like all clubs) but if you do that here you will find some pretty forthright opinions coming back at you. In my opinion your post explaining dual registration and our deal with Cas (whom I have nothing against) bent the truth and was a tad condescending. A bit like someone assigned the task of bringing a group of unruly dissidents to heel

People need to trust what you are saying otherwise your (and therefore the clubs) words are empty.

Please continue to post, but please think about the content first.

I think you are right, but a few ill chosen words can change the whole emphasis of what someone is trying to say and the relationship they are trying to build.

Yes agreed - and we (fans) have a responsibility to build bridges too!
