| A good win against a good ,fast Gateshead team.
Cougars were workman like but had no idea how to stop the acting half back scooting 10/15 yards each time. Only some desperate defence kept Gateshead out.
In the 1st half it was Cougars scored scrappy tries, Gateshead from fast flowing football.
2nd half was mainly all Cougars and they nearly missed so many points by creating overlaps and then turning the ball back inside.
Gateshead were game and never gave up and come "summer" they showed they are more than capable of giving teams a run for their money.
All in all a very good hit out and to point out the glaring problems would be churlish.
For those who missed it, get down for the Hunslet game. It could be a cracker.

| well I was at the game and thought we out enthused Gateshead and outplayed them, your right Henderson pulled the strings for them but that was it Gateshead are a division above don't forget and I think your doing are lads an injustice, everyone them showed grit tonight so less about Gateshead and more about our lads effort eh?

| I must admit after the first ten minuets i thought we onto a hiding.
Then we started to get a grip of the game. Some of the tries were a bit scrappy others were simply fantastic.
Gave Duffy and Greg Nicolson (sp) had great games as did the two halves.

| 40-20 I believe, a great win and clearly the last two matches were the lads messing about. Sorry I missed it but only got back home from London at 8pm. Will be at the next one, Blackpool on Sunday I think.

You actually mean you support the Cougars?
It was a good hit out for the team. I came away feeling quite hopeful for the season ahead.

| League fan you seem to be making negatives out of a great performance. I must be feeling ill but I agree with GW.
Greg Nicholson was my man of the match, we clearly were the better team.
Great Britain 40 Australia 20, wicked.

| For me Jon Presley was man of the match. 3 great tries in the 2nd half, and great reaction to the ball stripped out from gavin duffy for his 2nd.

Do you think I'd be in this crazy place if I didnt?
Yes, it sounds a very good result, and certainly a good omen for the future.

| Awesome result, just checked on sky sports. Had a mouth full of coffee at the time, which subsequently almost ended up all over the screen. 40 points in the first match, very very good.

| A big well done to the players and coach.
For me, a game of two halves. Gateshead played world cup "hold em down and wrestle" style rugby whereas we released quickly and allowed them fast play of the ball. I was quite surprised the ref did't penalise them more.
I the second half we adapted well. Played their WWF better than they did and watched their dummy half (though not perfectly). The forwards got stuck in and our backs used pace and jinking runs like we know they can. Presley and Nicholson stood out but everyone played with enthusiasm and desire.
There is still much room for improvement but after the diabolical warm up matches this was a tonic.
Well done to Barry for what must have been the right team talk at half time. I have to admit I feared a heavy defeat but was pleasantly corrected.
For those who stopped away, you missed an exiting game - come on down!

SEE you ALL at Blackpool on Sunday.
No need for any in depth comment on the game we were as we were last sason best going forward with the ball.
When we attack nobody is safe Barrow, Donnie Gateshead , Batley etc as we proved last year.
Ball possession imperative and we were only on back foot when we gifted them too much ball.
Bit slow with line going UP into defence ( at them not waiting for them )but minor issue didnt cost us out.
Gatehead were a well organised and very fast team, they will be a ton better in a few weeks time .( with their NEW Aussies)
Still sticking to 15 wins minimum, dig deep for those win bonuses BOSS.
We'll put as much money into Club as we can.
The new Programme was OKAY as was the inside FLYERS, excellent in fact and it puts the money into the Club at i hope NO expense.
400 hundred Progs sold means £ 400 into the kitty .
