I see our chairman, has once again said about us being in SL in 5 years time.

Now i would love to see this happen......................but for the life of me i cannot see how it can be done.

What would we need to do to achieve SL in 5 years time.

Well first we would have to have a winning team. Gary has said we are aiming to win our league next season.

We would need to have a bigger crowd, a wining team would go some way towards that. But the sort of numbers we need. I am not sure, we could get that many down.

We would need a new ground or to improve Cougar Park.

I cant see a new ground happening. The ground as it is, has room for improvement but will need a lot of money spending on it.

I wonder how all this is going to happen.

I dont think we meet any of the criteria do we? and probably never will. I know times are hard and cost cutting is taking place but i think a cash injection of between £2-3 million is needed if the so called dream will ever come true.

You'd need 2 new stands holding at least 5000 seats each with corporate boxes and hospitality suite, improved bars and catering, a media centre, 4 changing rooms, offices for the club and disabled facilities.

Level the sloping pitch and install new drainage and sprinkler systems

South terrace would need a roof and reconcreteing with a view to making it an away end.

Improved toilet facilities, a club shop.

I don't think you'd get change out of £20m and that's just for the ground.

Then you need to fill it full of fans, bringing lots of money in, with a good team winning trophies.

Can't knock the directors for having a dream even if it is a "tad" far fetched.

The biggest problem IMHO is that Stupid League don't want teams like us (and Fev, Leigh, Fax, Oldham, Swinton, Rochdale and the rest)

Could we get a suitable and loyal fanbase? I would imagine this would have to be 10,000 plus to make us viable and less reliant on sugar daddies. A successful Leeds and Bradford would make this harder.

Could we get major sponsors? We had them lined up during Cougar Mania so I suppose in theory its possible, but financial times are tougher all round now.

Could we get a suitable ground? Well, if people had attended the open meetings with the directors they would have already heard Gary's thoughts on this but if I recal there were only half a dozen supporters there. I am amazed that people moan about lack of info then don't show up when offered a face to face open forum. It's not a dig at anyone just a general observation regards fellow Keighley fans - we have around 600 - 700 core supporters you'd think we would be able to at least fill a meeting room.

From a personal point of view I have just stopped bothering about super league, but I would not say no if we had a realistic, viable plan for long term survival.

As much as I like Cougar Park, its years away from the 'premier standard' they bang on about in the franchise system.

Good luck though, every team should have that ambition.

I remeber a guy named Mick some years ago who had the same dream, it almost came true, before he came to keighley people were saying the same thing as now, keighley will never win the 3rd division? they will never win 2nd div, then the same people were saying, they will never win premiership final? come-on give the guy a chance

It does seem strange to be cutting staff at the same time as saying you can make the jump to SL in 5 years

You read an article like rlthisrl and I think that he talks complete and utter sense and is the perfect guy to run the club.

But then you take a step back and think Super League? In five years? Through sustainable growth? And the concept all of a sudden seems to be conflicting with itself.

I'd love to see it happen but I can't see it coming to fruition in 5 years. Maybe 8 though.

Not a chance in hell , not saying what he has put isn't true , but he is missing the fundamental point that the sport cannot finance the business

' Lapsed ' fans are lost fans , they are gone , the world has changed , their expectations have not changed

Collaberation between clubs is the only answer , but do your owners have the foresight to see that ?

That was all done before the start of SL.
In those days P/R was still in place so the dream could be achieved.

Its not the same now. There are so many things to be done to get us into SL.
