If it's that big a deal why aren't the club making any effort whatsoever to contact those who haven't renewed yet and ask them why they haven't yet and if they intend to?
I was a season ticket holder last season but have not received anything from the club about renewing etc. Maybe this is an area the club could do better? I don't think there is any reason to panic though as there could be many reasons for the poor uptake. I still feel the support come day 1 of the season will be the same, if not better than last season.
If what I understand is correct, maybe those who came on here last season saying watch this space with their doom and gloom may well be eating some humble pie now.
