| Quote: D.D. "I quite like this article actually.
[iWhat sort of fool can be driven to 'riot' by a footballer? Why should a player have to bear in mind what the reaction of a small minority of crazy, over-emotional numptys might be, especially when it spoils the fun for the rest of us sentient creatures who are able to resist the urge to become a street-fighting man as a response to a footballer's actions?
No footballer has ever, nor ever could make me want to create civil disorder and I'm sure you feel exactly the same. Yes, they can annoy and frustrate. Yes, you may wish to swear at them sometimes - but enough to start fighting? Enough to lose your mind? Have some self control. He is just not that important. Not important enough to commit violence or wanton destruction over. That's not your passion for the game, or the club, it's just inappropriate, emotionally incontinent over-reaction and needs to be condemned as such.[/i

| Quote: D.D. "I'm sorry but if celebrating a goal in front of people who have been taunting them all game is enough to cause people to riot then who's the main problem here? The person who celebrates the goal or the morons who were taunting him all game, hurling racist abuse and missiles and then fighting.
Under the game's rules, I appreciate Adebayor, like others in the past, could be deemed as incenting a riot but if that's all it takes for some muppets to start kicking off aggro then surely it's the muppets that need investigating more.
These people are happy to dish out what was just about the worse abuse that I have ever heard an individual get from a set of fans, yet can't take it back when a player slides on his knees in front of them.'"
For someone who so often posts sensible, objective comments on this board you must realise this is a biased load of tripe?
As for the article you referenced:
'When Emmanuel Adebayor scored that goal and set off towards the Arsenal fans, it was a brilliant bit of drama; such things are one of the reasons we love football's soap opera.'
A perfect example of trying to shine a sh*t. Sounds like a Sky commentator sensationalising something that happens to have been broadcast on Sky.

Leave Dave to it. Let him take the sky blue specs off and watch it again.

Because it doesn't fit into what you believe to be the case? It was great stuff IMO. This is also reflected by pretty much everyone who has spoken to me (more like 'harrassed') about it today. These are fans of Tottenham, Chelsea, Watford, Liverpool and United.
Quote: SaintJose "As for the article you referenced
I have to say it was the 'greatest' goal celebration that I have ever witnessed. It was great drama. Look at the context:
* The sun was shining
* It was a full house
* A game between a great club, entrenched in the top 4, against a team who some think could pose a threat to the dominance of the top clubs
* Adebayor and Toure were facing their old club. Many Arsenal fans claiming that they are terrible players and were surplus to requirements
* Arsenal fans abusiing Toure throughout - the abuse included references to his mother and father, as well as his ethnicity
* We were in the lead, Arsenal stormed back with a goal and looked like they were going to win. they were battering us
* City snatched the lead following a break. Bellamy scoring the goal
* The City crowd were now riotous (in a celebratory kind of way)
* Adebayor scores a great goal
* The stadium erupted. The goal pretty much sealed the win (or at least that's what the majority of the people in the stadium had felt) against a team we have have struggled against for many years
* Adebayor looked like he was about to explode. You could immediately tell that he was about to do something
* He used every single bit of energy he had at the time to drag himself up the pitch to ram the racist and offensive taunts right down the throats of the Arsenal fans
It was pure theatre. It would have been so dull had he simply pointed to the sky near the spot where he scored.
If anyone produces a 3 minutes version of that celebration in slow-mo, with a decent tune, I would buy it. It was magic.

I've seen it about fifteen times actually.
If you had been there and witnessed the moronic abuse he was on the end of, you might have seen why he did what he did.
Like I said, I won't condone the stamp but the celebration was pretty much nothing in compared to what he had to suffer from them.
Mind you, being an Everton fan, I would imagine you were brought up on banana throwing.

Absolutely. I had never wanted an individual to score as much and it was one of the best 'go mental' moments I have ever had at a sporting fixture. A proper 'hugging strangers' moment.

Anyone fancy playing right back Thursday then, seen as we havn't got one!?
Says it all about our luck in 2009, and even back end of 2008.
Hope the forwards are on song as we'll need goals, Jags still out, Neville now out, Heitinga not available, Hibbert suspended....truly a battered defence.
Hope Yakubu and Saha are fit and ready.....

| Gosling will play there.
Just wondering, what's going on with the CL on ITV this year?
Will they still be showing two games a week on Tuesday's or has it changed to Wednesday's now?
A mate of mine just said they'll only be showing Liverpool and United games. Any help?

They have the rights to one game a matchday plus a highlights show on a Wednesday night.
That game will be played on a Wednesday night. All Tuesday games plus the other 7 on a Wednesday will be shown on SKY
Rangers games are exclusive on SKY Sports this season.

| Quote: Andy Gilder "Following the general move towards a blame culture in society IMO.
It wasn't their fault they threw missiles and tried to run onto the pitch, it was Adebayor's apparently for having the temerity to celebrate scoring against their team.
Much as it wasn't the fault of the Derby players the other weekend that they couldn't just shake their heads and walk away from Nathan Tyson acting like a c*ck, it must have been Tyson's fault for provoking them.
There's a general shift in society (of which sport is reflective) towards not taking responsibility for your own actions and looking for someone else to blame.'"
The old 'well he started it!'.
