Quote: Enfield Exile "Football fans have become so delicate.

I remember when Salford fans were given the Vs from Dave Bradbury(who was playing for Oldham at the time) as he was subbed. There were tears of laughter in The Shed.

It was funny seeing the Tarquins and Jemimas getting wound-up on Saturday.

As for the trouble, apparently a City fan before the game wound-up some Arsenal supporters and one of them thumped him and . As a result, the lad now has a brain injury. From what I have heard, the Arsenal fans didn't cause much trouble. They were very sheepish when they left the stadium. Their mummies probably called them after hearing what had happened and told them to return home ASAP.'"

Spot on. Paul Ince came back to United with Liverpool and spent 90 minutes getting abused by K Stand. In the end he snapped, turned round, flicked the Vs at everyone and told them all to f**k off. The reaction from K? People were rolling in the aisles they were laughing that much.

The way supporters react these days is embarrassing.

Quote: D.D. "I'm sorry but if celebrating a goal in front of people who have been taunting them all game is enough to cause people to riot then who's the main problem here? The person who celebrates the goal or the morons who were taunting him all game, hurling racist abuse and missiles and then fighting.

Under the game's rules, I appreciate Adebayor, like others in the past, could be deemed as incenting a riot but if that's all it takes for some muppets to start kicking off aggro then surely it's the muppets that need investigating more.

These people are happy to dish out what was just about the worse abuse that I have ever heard an individual get from a set of fans, yet can't take it back when a player slides on his knees in front of them.'"

Football fans are idiots. Hundreds of millions of pounds has been spent trying to overcome this fact. Hundreds of lives have been lost because of it. Football supporters have to watch the game in all seater stadiums because of it. Large-scale police operations across the country have to be mounted every week because of it.

Given all these factors, WTF do football players on £150,000 a week expect to happen when they run from one end of the pitch to the other to wind these people up?

If Arsenal fans and Citeh fans taunt each other then the stewards and police should do everything in their power to stop them assaulting each other. That's their job. But it's not their job to get injured because the stupid morons on the field deliberately wind them up.

Adebayor wants hammering for what he did. Every scratch, every injury that the stewards suffered during that incident is down to him.

We can't do any more than we have to stop supporters being idiots. There will probably be many life bans for what the supporters did on Saturday. But we can stop stupid players from deliberately inciting idiot fans.

On the basis that I can't be ar[is[/ied trawling the thread, has anyone picked up on the fact that both Bendtner & Van Persie tried their damnedest to cripple Adebayor with their lunges?

The latter obviously receiving a facial wound - hardly career threatening when compared to the injuries Ade would have sustained had he not tried to ride the challenges by the "innocents" involved.

The waist high challenge on Ade on his mazy run into the box by Bendtner was almost treasonable.

Quote: Andy Gilder "Following the general move towards a blame culture in society IMO.

It wasn't their fault they threw missiles and tried to run onto the pitch, it was Adebayor's apparently for having the temerity to celebrate scoring against their team.

Much as it wasn't the fault of the Derby players the other weekend that they couldn't just shake their heads and walk away from Nathan Tyson acting like a c*ck, it must have been Tyson's fault for provoking them.

There's a general shift in society (of which sport is reflective) towards not taking responsibility for your own actions and looking for someone else to blame.'"

That is reminiscent of my rant while listening to 606

I cannot believe the over-reaction to this incident. If the FA punish Adebayor retrospectively for the celebration, football really has gone mad.

Can someone actually tell me if Gary Neville was banned after celebrating infront of Liverpool fans.

This weekend, the media in all formats, has stated that Adebayor should be banned for the celebration because Neville received a two-game ban. I was under the impression Neville didn't get banned.

What about all of this nonsense that "in the current climate, following what happened in the West Ham - Millwall game, Adebayor should receive a lengthy ban". What has that got to do what happened on a Saturday, at a game involving completely different teams, in a different city, with no history of rivalry between the fans?

No, he was fined £5000. He made an statement on the matter at the time.

Quote: Enfield Exile "I believe it is a poor decision. Not just for me but for all footballers.

Being a robot, devoid of passion and spirit is obviously the way forward for the modern-day footballer. And I ask the authorities, 'Where is football being taken?''"

I think that holds true today!

Welcome to the world of supporting a club that the media now want to put the boot in at every given opportunity. The role of lovable underdog, there to be simply laughed at has gone and we should be thankful for that. icon_biggrin.gif

It's all getting very silly now. The media are on a 'clampdown' frenzy. We had the diving crusade last week and now that will be forgotten about as we move on to this.

Seeing as players can be charged with inciting a riot for celebrating a goal, will the next step be charging referees with the same offence for match costing, blatantly incorrect decisions?

Phil Neville will have a lengthy lay off now, he has damaged his knee ligaments and although Mick Rathbone can't confirm how long he will be out for it is a lengthy lay off.

Anyone fancy playing right back Thursday then, seen as we havn't got one!? icon_cry.gif

Unfortunately this could become a habit. What are the chances of Barry scoring against Villa, Lescott against Everton and Tevez against United?

I think Hughes needs to appoint a "designated tackler" who's job includes immediately rugby tackling these players if they ever score against their former club, before they can get anywhere near the opposition fans.

Clearly whoever gets the job need to have pace (although nobody would have caught Adebayor) and strength. I would nominate Micah Richards for the job.

[iWhat sort of fool can be driven to 'riot' by a footballer? Why should a player have to bear in mind what the reaction of a small minority of crazy, over-emotional numptys might be, especially when it spoils the fun for the rest of us sentient creatures who are able to resist the urge to become a street-fighting man as a response to a footballer's actions?

No footballer has ever, nor ever could make me want to create civil disorder and I'm sure you feel exactly the same. Yes, they can annoy and frustrate. Yes, you may wish to swear at them sometimes - but enough to start fighting? Enough to lose your mind? Have some self control. He is just not that important. Not important enough to commit violence or wanton destruction over. That's not your passion for the game, or the club, it's just inappropriate, emotionally incontinent over-reaction and needs to be condemned as such.[/i
