That's exactly as I saw it too. I have to say that I never liked Shearer as a player for many, many reasons. However, in the last few weeks Shearer the manager has actually grown on me. His honesty in the last few weeks has been a refreshing change & while he's clearly never looked up to the job it's been difficult not to admire his candid assesments of his team's "performances" & the fact that he had the balls to deal with Barton in a way that his previous managers have seemed incapable.

The playing staff, if you think that lot will get you back up, think again, they wouldn't have a prayer. You can see some obvious exits, Bassong will now go to Arsenal, Barton to Bolton, maybe Nolan to Blackburn. Others they'll get money for probably Martins, Jonas, Taylor, Enrique. You'd imagine Harper will stay, maybe Butt, Ameobi, not many though.

It's going to need some canny movement in transfer market, a few favours & probably a bit of luck, but they will attract players, still. He just needs to look past this 'Premiership Quality' thing that people get hung up on, get players who'll get you out of that division.
