It's a close thing between them. But The Rock has the ability to come up with a catchphrase one night and have everyone chanting it the next. While Austin could do this as well, I'm taking points off because of that god awful "what?" chant.

Fully agree it was annoying as hell, but to be fair to Austin it was ridiculously over + shifted a lot of merchandise, which is all a wrestling company can ask for.
Re these two you must also add Hogan into the mix - still the biggest star in the history of wrestling IMO.

| Finally got round to watching Raw, all round good show topped (although not good enough to make me want to watch ELimination Chamber).
Topped of with Rocks returned. The mixture of his music and the huge pop sent a chill down my spine.
Not sure how long he will be back for or how much involvement he will have but all of a sudden Raw has become unmissable for me. (hasn't been like that for a long long time)
Also made me want to order Wrestlemania.

How long did that take you? It's on my list of books I want to read! Got Bret Hart's and Terry Newton's first.

| Raw made me remember why I became a fan, and also why I'm not a fan of the PG era.

I never saw the attraction of Hogan tbh. A wrestler with very poor in-ring moves, very predictable moves and outcomes in 90% of his matches, yet he is lauded as one of the very best ever to step into a ring. Yes, he sold a lot of merchandise, on the back of his American hero blurb and I can see why he became the star that he did as the ultimate face, but technically and as far as his classic matches go, he was pretty poor IMO compared to others around at the time.

i got it weds and i'm partway through it, HHH has just done his first quad injury.
Would i be right in assuming the general tone on benoit has changed in this book? So far i've seen 3 alan partridge esque paragraph endings that very bitterly say "its unfortunate that this match has been buried and technically doesn't exist anymore"

about 6 hours in all, it's 420 pages, so quite a lengthy one! I'd recomend it, as it gives an honest insight into a lot of behind the scenes in WWF/E

| I've seen Hogan live in his pomp, yes he's technically limited, but my God did the man have the arena in his hand. To this day there's no-one I've seen come close to creating an atmosphere at an even that he did.
(oh an aside - Mr Cat, look for the main event at this weeks impact, you will be pleasantly suprised).

Well the thing is, I've seen guys who can do 1000's of moves, fly round the ring like superman, but they've not got 1000th of the charisma that Hogan brings to the ring. Yes, he's never had a huge array of moves, but tbh, most of the top guys don't use more than a handful of moves. It's the response those moves get which is the important thing.

Totally agree with you mate, but I don't ever remember Hogan actually bringing much in terms of charisma or whatever, in the ring or out. All I really remember of what he used to be about was all-American guy, and he'd go after anyone who said or did anything bad against the good ol' US of A and what it stood for etc. Everything on the mic was Hulkamaniacs this, 24 inch pythons that, whatcha gonna do this, brother/mean Gene that, week in week out. Don't get me wrong, I can see why people did like/love him back in the day, just personally thought he never brought anything much compared to other guys of the time and since, i.e. the likes of The Rock, Austin, Michaels etc......

And it's very infair to suggest that Hogan got over because of the American Hero gimmick. Yes, I'm sure it didn't do any harm to his cause, but if it was as easy to create a megastar as draping a US flag over their shoulders, Luger would have matched Hogan's achievements, but he came nowhere close.

| Watched my 1st bit of wrestling for years thanks to The Rocks return. By far the most entertaining wrestler I've ever watched. You just have to see the reaction of the crowd throughout his whole act. I liked Stone Cold but entertainment wise he wasn't in the same league as the great one.
Actually tempted to get Wrestlemania just to watch The Rock layeth the smacketh down!

| They've not bothered with bleeping the rock on SD. Guess they've decided that ass isn't that offensive and is allowable on PG tv
