They didn't sack him, did they? The radio new just stated he quit after falling out with the board over transfer policies?

| Quote Saddened!="Saddened!":CRAZY:
Don't suggest they've not backed him. His decisions re. signings are awful. Bar Reina and Torres who were hardly difficult to pick as being quality, none of his other signings have made the grade.
Surely you cannot defend the failure he has become? If all the signings he'd made were doing well, like you can say for David Moyes or Alex McLeish or O'Neill for example then people would agree with you. But I bet Rafa has spent well over £100m on utter rubbish.
From Wiki, I bet Rafa signed most, if not all, of these. I'm sure you can see a theme developing (Good signings, if he even made them, in bold):
Diego Cavalieri - Not good enough
Glen Johnson - Not good enough, paid £15m too much
Alberto Aquilani - Awful signing, paid £12m too much
Daniel Agger - Not good enough
Steven Gerrard (captain) - Rafa didn't sign
Fernando Torres - Top quality
Albert Riera - Not good enough
Fábio Aurélio - Not good enough
Yossi Benayoun - Very good squad player
Sotirios Kyrgiakos - Awful signing
Maxi RodrÃguez - Signed today
Dirk Kuyt - Not good enough
Ryan Babel - Not good enough
Javier Mascherano - Good squad player
Lucas - Not good enough
Emiliano Insúa - Not good enough
Jamie Carragher - Rafa didn't sign him, but surely sees his time is up?
David N'Gog - Not good enough
Pepe Reina - Top quality
Philipp Degen - Not good enough
Damien Plessis - Not good enough
Nabil El Zhar - Not good enough
Martin Å krtel - Not good enough'"
I find your evaluations interesting. How did you come up with such figures?

| The Latin waiter has been backed heavily by the board at Anfield and has made some awful signings.
Will be interesting to see how they do now with Torres out for 6 weeks, Benayoun for 4 weeks and diver G out for 2 weeks.

| Chelsea and City were more than willing to pay the £17million that Liverpool played for Johnson as well.
I've no problem with the signing. We were lacking a threat from the full-backs last year, something which many said needed fixing. Benitez did that. Though he hasn't had the best couple of months, I think Johnson's signing is a good one. Was he over-priced? Probably, but not by much.
I also think he's got lucky with Aquilani. It's not the first instance of an injured player joining a big club but it's become evident that Liverpool don't have the depth to accomodate such a long absence from a player in the £15-20m bracket.
I'm on Rafa's side and every other Liverpool supporter owes it to the manager to do the same. They stood by Houllier through worse, imo.

A luxury both City and Chelsea could afford.

So why was he signed when the club and Benitez knew full well he was injured and likely to be out for some time?
