I'm not convinced about the human error or the evening out theory.

Decisions are consistently made at the top clubs which have a negative influence on the opposition, the non giving of a penalty when it is blatant, the giving of a penalty when it isn't a penalty, a harsh sending off etc etc. These are undoubtedly influenced by the fear of Fergie, Wenger etc (but particularly at OT where Fergie picks and chooses his officials, one poor decision against Fergie and you don't ref at OT again) and this is corruption, not in the criminal sense but still a corrupt side to the game. It may be a conspiracy theory but it has ample evidence when it comes to Utd and Old Trafford. There is a whole list of incidents where the officiating has strangely helped Utd get a result at OT with Fergie.

It is about time technology is brought in so a side can question a pathetic decision such as yesterday.

No evidence to support this theory unfortunately cockle (unless you think Ronaldo was going to score 5 free kicks that is).

Back to reality, Spurs were comfortable, United hadn't opened us all day, after the penalty they opened us easily.

Go figure.

Opened up easily? You meant bent over and took one for the champions?

United had started off quite well in that hals. Carrick being in the position to almost score is proof of this. It was an inevitability that the reds would come back at you strong and this feeble penalty excuse is just a convenient way of dodging the real issue - when United turned it on you had no answers whatsoever. Penalty counts for one goal. You were still ahead after it was scored and still had the game in your hands. No wonder you are so ashamed.

Coming from a St. Helens fan this is very, very funny indeed.

I only watched the highlights to see the penalty decision. I skipped parts of the vid until I saw the 2-0 scoreline. I then saw Ronaldo bring a fine save from Gomez with a dipping shot to the top corner and another fine save from Gomez when Tevez was 1-on-1 with him.

I believe you that these were the only times United opened you up, I really do.

If it wasn't for Gomes we would have scored a couple, he pulled off a couple of great saves in the first half, and before the penalty.

Off the top of my head you came close 3/4 times in the first half, twice you scored, and three of those times (inc goals) were down to errors by Ferdinand. When United came out in the second half, it was a matter of when and how much rather than if.

A total lack of evidence blows this away. The game was still sat at 2-0 despite Utd apparently starting the second half well (did they? It looked pretty similar to the first half to me with Utd having no penetration and Spurs defending easily).

The real issue is that everybody concerned with the game (including both managers) knew the first goal and when it came in that second half was hugely important. The referee gave Utd it early on and with it, the game. It was disgusting.

Set pieces, as I have already said was where Utd looked dangerous. The odd chance here and there was no more than Spurs were doing at the other end. I thought Utd broke quickly but offered no clear cut chances through this (prior to the penalty).

How we scored is nothing to do with it really. We exposed the defensive frailties of the apparent brilliant centre half Ferdinand again, I know that much. Does it get any worse than being outmuscled by Darren Bent ?

It's a good point well made - Ian Smith anyone. Saints can't win the grand final despite Daniel Anderson picking and choosing who refs his team, fergie has not of that influence - LEAGUE is bent and Saints are at the very heart of this shameful shambles, it's a disgrace.

Saints were exactly the same I agree in terms of Smith.

Smith has more than made for it this year though.

What's your solution then? Have no officials at any game in any sport? Don't be such a plank. icon_rolleyes.gif

Got to be technology. There simply has to be a system in place that can change a wrong decision, such as yesterday or when Mendes scored a few seasons back.

I fail to see why it can't be implemented to stop shameful episodes like that, which has after all ended the title race when it should be wide open right now.

I can't bring you evidence because it's an impossibility. That's why I'm falling back on Mr Opinion, just like you are. What do you think this is? A UN Conference? It's an internet discussion. I can't bring you proof and I don't need to. Although United coming back to win from behind is hardly unprecedented. We're known for it.

Quote: Stirlingshire Saint "The real issue is that everybody concerned with the game (including both managers) knew the first goal and when it came in that second half was hugely important. The referee gave Utd it early on and with it, the game. It was disgusting.'"

The real issue is people masking this one incident to excuse their own behaviour. Spurs for capitulating embarrasingly. Liverpool relying on a blatent dive for their first goal and a possible hand ball in the second (not to mention all the draws which let United into the title race in the first place).

We can all bleat about corruption and they do it all the time in certain circles but if you scroll back just a few pages someone provided detractors with some handy stats about united with regards to penalties and sendings off. Bottom line is, 5-2. Whose fault are the other four goals?
