| Quote: Robbie Rotten "
I think City definitely need a centre half, but surely there are cheaper, more achievable options around than Terry?'"
Even Dunne would admit to that
There are cheaper alternatives but we do need a leader. Terry has never been a world class footballer IMO, but he does appear to be a very good leader. We will need a leader when we are in places like Stoke and our fancy dans are not having it all their own way. I cannot think of anyone else who would fit that bill. Vidic would be a decent signing, but I think it would be cheeky to steal two players from United in one season. We will wait until they have a fire sale
We are being linked to Lucio but not sure if there is any truth in that. I don't think he is the solution. Each top team needs a leader(s) IMO. We have some pretenders who could develop into leaders (e.g. De Jong and Kompany) but we need someone who can lead the club now.

Do you remember seeing thousands of empty seats at your home games last season?
Care to share those lists? If you saw them recently you shouldn't have too much trouble finding them again.
Well if that's your guess, it must be true.
You're not getting under my skin. You are simply stating bull5hit dressed as facts.

It was free, but I bet the club shop at the Bernabeu was open late and doing brisk business with 80,000 people milling around.

I am trying to find the list but teh search facility on the forum is awful. I looked at the figures you provided were for 1947 onwards. It doesn't say it under the figures but it is identical to another list I have viewed. Prior to the 1950s, City were arguably the best supported club in the country. We had several crowds over 70k, with our record attendance in 1934, which was 84.5k against Stoke.

| I can understand why 80,000 people would want to pay to watch Cristiano Ronaldo play because he is a magnificent player. But I can't for the life of me figure out why they'd go out of their way to be at a welcome ceremony for him. Sad ****ers should get a life and find something better to do, just like their dozy geordie cousins.

In some ways I find it incredible that a team has such support. It's mind-blowing.
I loved the staged pitch invasion. It was similar to the time in which Beckham was welcomed to Real and a young lad ran on the pitch to hug him. How cringeworthy.

"To be in a two-horse race with Manchester United for an England international gives me great pride.
"He was ready to consider coming to Hull City but he has joined the champions of England. You can't argue with that but for me it was positive to see us in the running."[/i
You're proud? Of coming second in a 2 horse race? Would he still; be proud to know he would also have come 2nd in a 1 horse race? I'd imagine Owen would rather have retired than go to Hull. How on earth can he claim it was a 2 horse race when he didn't even get to speak to Owen?

You want to try checking the You Tube footage for the welcome of Darius Vassell at Ankaragucu before commenting upon anyone being sad.

Has there been any occasion in the last 40 years where you have had a higher average attendance than City for two seasons running? I would guess that not to be the case. However, in the reverse, I would say we have surpassed your average attendance many times. As long as I have been watching football, we have been far more popular than Chelsea.'"
Mmm!
Chelsea were statistically the best supported club for many years before the Second World War. The only time that City were the biggest suppored club in the country was in 1927-28 when we were actually in the Second Division.
However, it is very much true to say that City's support eclipsed Chelsea's throughout the 70s, 80s and early 90s.
Statistically though, because Chelsea had such a large average crowd in the Pre-War years, they are ahead of us in the all time list.
City were always the best supported club in Manchester, until the 1940s, but we used to attract massive crowds for the big games only and did not sustain anywhere near that level for average league games.

I don't get what gives him pride. Why doesn't he declare interest in Ribery, then when he joins Chelsea/Madrid he can take great pride in being beaten by two of the richest clubs in the world. Why doesn't he fill himself with pride and go head to head with every top club for players?

That 's not what I was told in a discussion with Andrew Waldon. I cannot remember the exact figures but we managed to get "regular" crowds over 50k pre-war, with some as high as c80k. Certainly not an average anywhere near 80k but I was given the impression that they were c50k by Andrew.
I always thought that Chelsea's attendances peaked in the mid-50s?
