I'm just glad that generally we stay clear of it all. It can lead to serious cap implications down the line. [size=200Take Carolina. They are paying $12 million next year for Delhomme[/size and another player they signed whos name i can't remember and neither are on the team anymore.
.'"
How do you work that out? Hes been released and theres no salary cap anyway !!
Is the other player a wide reciever though I think I know who you may mean but I cant think of his name either?

I believe they will still be paying him won't they? My understanding is they take the hit this year and avoid any carry over should the 2011 season have a salary cap. Be aware that this may be complete rubbish. Where will he end up? If nothing else he could do a job as an experienced backup.

Im not sure they do have to pay him anything other than his guarenteed money from the contract he signed last year?
I dont see him being a starter anywhere probably just a backup like you say

NFL.com article about him says,
Delhomme, 35, holds almost every Panthers passing record, but cutting him during a season without a salary cap will save some of the hit that his contract will have in future years should the cap return.
So this option gives them the smallest hit in the long run. When you look at that deal he signed you have to wonder what the Panthers were thinking, $42.5mil($20mil guaranteed) over 5 years for a 34 year old who has had injury problems. So if they are paying $12mil this year then they only have $8mil over the next 3 years.

I just watched a video on the NFL site that said he had $19 million guaranteed and he was owed $12 million still which hes been paid now after his release so they dont owe him anything, so theres no damage to their salary cap.
IMHO the salary cap wont be back for a long time(at least 2 years) so it probably doesnt matter anyway in the long run.
It was a silly contract he was given like you say especially coming of the back of a bad playoff game and all his injurys, I remember laughing at the time and thinking it had been typed up wrong or something

He'd be great in New York. David Carr will probably sign elsewhere. He would be a good fit in St Louis as a scapegoat till Bradford or Clausen are ready.

I thought there was still a cap hit but obviously not. Either way they still owe him $12 million (whether they have paid him or not).
As for the cap i'm sure it'll be back in 2011. It'll pretty much have to be. The CBA runs out so there needs to be a new one for 2011 or there will be no football and a lockout. Salary cap is going to be the main part of the CBA.

I think it's been a very good free agency so far It the draft that's going to bore me this year, well until the 3rd round when we get a pick.

Welcome to my world
We dont usually have many early picks but this year we have a few stocked up (unless we trade them again)

I think having a second NFL team is understandable. It's not like a british sport where you're born into the club you support. For me I'm a Salford and United fan in Rugby and Football and couldn't imagine supporting anyone else. In the NFL, the majority of UK fans picked there team, there is little or no emotional attachement with them.

Comes off the back of the acquisition of Dunta Robinson from Houston who is a likely starter for 2010.

| I see Shaun Rogers may be on the trading block. Apparently the Browns would likely accept a third. If I was AJ Smith I would do the deal without hesitation. After losing Jamal Williams, and depth at NT being pretty weak in the draft - certainly for elite NT's - it would be a great move.
