His club beat Wigan for the first time in their history and instead of celebrating, he's kissing the butt of Liverpool fans.
I think Whelan has achieved remarkable things for Wigan FC. There's no way Wigan would be a PL team if it wasn't for Whelan. But if there's anyone who needs his tongue cutting out to save him from himself, it's Dave Whelan. He's up there with Benitez and Wenger in my hate list.

I wasn't the one who posted the thing about our spine being better than anyone elses. FWIW I would say Chelseas spine has been far better than Liverpools this season in every position other than goalkeeper but that is proven in the league positions. If we are fit and firing I'd take Torres and Gerrard over Drogba and Lampard any day.

It's a small part of what makes a goalkeeper good though. If Chelsea won the league but conceded 50 goals and Birmingham finish 10th and concede 49 goals does that make all Brimingham defenders better than their Chelsea counterparts? Ridgewell better than Ashley Cole? Roger Johnson better than Terry? Does it hell. Reina has overtaken Cech as the number one keeper in the Premier League regardless of how many goals have been conceded by each team. Cech is still a fine keeper and if Hunt hadn't done him, I'd say he would have progressed to being the best keeper in the world bynow. |

He slid in from behind on McCarthy but cleanly won the ball. The assistant ref flagged it up as a free kick and Gerrard gave him a spray. Marriner ran over and as Gerrard turned round he flashed him the yellow. Gerrard threw his hand up and it did look like he was giving him the v's. It wasn't a blatant "I'm giving you the bird" but you can't deny he looks like he was giving him 2 fingers. |

I've seen it a good three or four times (as well as the goal  ). On the ground I did think he won the ball. When i've seen it again he didn't. Ok he didn't shove his fingers in the refs face but the gesture was certainly towards the official. |

According to F365 he's getting away with it.
I haven't seen the incident, but for me if he did stick v's at a ref when he's already been booked it is an absolute joke that he's got off with it. Contrast the way this has been ignored with the way that Ashley Cole was vilified when he had a go at Riley.
I guess though that now that the England captain and vice-captain wear red shirts the positions come with Shearer-type leniency. |
