Oh really, that's a shame. Your summation is pretty accurate.

| Quote: ryano "Probably won't be on anyone else's radar unless you were there but the game where Barnsley clinched promotion to the Premiership by beating Bradford City was pretty special. We lost the match and despite us being perilously close to being relegated our fans stayed on to celebrate with the Barnsley supporters. Chants of 'Yorkshire,Yorkshire' from all sides of the ground. I remember forum posts from Barnsley supporters at the time saying they had tears in their eyes when they saw the away fans celebrating with them. In turn the Barnsley fans applauded us as our coaches left the ground. You wouldn't see that in Rugby League!
Except something similar did happen at the Galpharm between Hull and Saints fans in 2005

In 1935 The Dragon Slayers as they were known defeated Canterbury bulldogs 91-6, which is still the biggest win in the Club's History. In 1907, the St George district had a club in the Sydney rugby union competition. Interestingly, the team's area was referred to as the 'Illawarra suburbs'. A resolution to form a St George rugby league club was made at a local meeting held in early 1908, but the movement faltered and collapsed. St George, wearing the district colours of red and white, played in the NSWRL's Third Grade competition in 1910, and formed a President's Cup team in 1911. References were found at the time to district teams being called 'The Saints'.the perfect 11

| Of ones I've attended the one that stands out is the Cup Winners Cup semi final 2nd leg at Goodison Park in 1985, Everton v Bayern Munich. 0-0 in the first leg and we went in 1-0 down at half time. I've never experienced an atmosphere like the one in the second half at any other sporting event. I was stood on the Gwladys Street end and all three goals in the second half were scored there. An unbelievable night, subsequently spoilt only by my decision to spend my cash on a weekend in London for the FA Cup final rather than go with my brother to Rotterdam for the CWC final.
Probably my only chance of seeing us pick up a European trophy chucked away for the privilege of seeing a 10 man United beat a knackered Everton side and deny us the treble.

That whole thing was made even more surreal by a coach-load of Barnsley fans subsequently turning up at Valley Parade to support us in our next (must-win) game at home to Charlton a few days later

| Final day of the 92-93 Premiership season:
Oldham 4-3 Southampton
We needed 9 points from 9 in our final 3 games to stay up and hope that Crystal Palace lost their remaining games. After somehow beating Villa and Liverpool, we eked out a 4-3 win on the final day, despite almost throwing away a 4-1 lead and stayed up on goal difference.
I remember being 7 years old, sat right at the front of the crowd while half the fans from behind me stormed the pitch at the final whistle

Never have I been in a more "evil" atmosphere at a Rugby League game.

Aye,my abiding memory of that night was Mark Bright sneakily gesturing to us at the front of the Kop that we were going down and Kinsella hitting the bar with a thunderbolt in the last few minutes. Of course the QPR game was a formality as I placed a £5 bet that we would win 3-0 and walked away with £55. Sweet!
