The story by TB is the first time they have turned on Roy so yes its abit of a "revelation"
Might get even worse today against Bolton I would take a point right now, its that bad.'"
No I haven't tried looking. I just seem to remember that SSN ran a piece in which Henry neither committed to Hodgson nor backed away from him giving him a vote of confidence. I couldn't really care less whether Hodgson stays to be honest though it is funny to watch everyone criticise a manager who inherited a bad team do badly. Hodgson is struggling but he didn't build this train crash of a squad.

There is a world outside of the Sky Sports bubble you know.
Train crash of a team that wasn't half a bad as this last season, so why are they worse this season?

No matter what problems Hodgson inherited, his side shouldn't have been done at home by Blackpool and Wolves. He shouldn't have been dumped out of the Carling Cup in the manner he was. I think he's getting a lot more stick than he deserves, but he certainly deserves to be getting stick and he is on the verge of getting fired because of how he's performed.
For me there does seem to be extra criticism of Hodgson as a way of supporting Benitez. But Benitez deserved the sack last year even more than Hodgson does now.

Hodgson has bought it on himself with his comments then backtracking days later.

Pretty much spot on for me. Yes his start hasn't been up to the level expected but this isn't his team. Torres clearly doesn't want to be at Liverpool anymore and they aren't exactly rich at that position after him. For years people have said that Liverpool would be ed when Gerrard and Torres get injured or lose form. It's happened and they are.
Yes Wire_85 there is a world outside the Sky Sports bubble but why would I choose to look into the Liverpool bubble when the club has no more than a passing interest for me? I'll read what's put in front of me but I aren't going to actively search for information on the club. Surely you will acknowledge the team had been well on the slide throughout the last year of the Benitez reign? Any manager would struggle to come in and turn them around straight away in the circumstances Roy came in under. Why do you think you had to settle for Hodgson?

| Yeah it was on the slip after finishing 2nd the season before still compared to this season (relegation battle on the way if form doesn't improve) it was miles better, also Rafa was working under a club in meltdown off the field, Roys had fresh start under new owners which I would of loved to of seen Rafa get to see if he could get his awful side he made back to Champions league finals, FA Cup finals and challenging for the league like he had been.
Why do you think you had to settle for Hodgson?
Club was in turmoil and non football people made the call.

| You say Roys had a fresh start under new owners. He hasn't really has he? He's not had a transfer window with these new owners yet and he's still running with a large Benitez contingent in the squad. I think they will sack him but unless they are willing to get a big name and seriously back him in a big way then Liverpool are going nowhere and fast.
I believe we had a long argument the other year about Benitez skills in the transfer market, our opinions were vastly different. Can't be d to go down the road of what Rafa could have done with new money, would the new owners have backed him anyway? Given the team was already on it's way down the table?

They came 7th one season he would of had to of been as poor this season to prove the team was on its way down the table.
Roys already had his chance to make a mark on the team, its not like he's just been given the same team as Rafa, he sent Aquilani on loan.
Meireles
Konchesky
Poulsen
Cole

2nd to 7th is quite a drop. Especially for a team with title aspirations at the start of the season, in fact they would have been reigning champions had Rafa not fallen apart with his "FACCCCHHTS" speech. So what your saying is Rafa's indiscretions under the old owners can be overlooked but not Roy's? That's a tad unfair IMO, especially given Roy has had exactly one transfer window in charge.
Aquilani out - Hardly a surprise was it? The guy did very little last season and was probably looking for a move back home.
Meireles - I thought Liverpool fans quite liked him as a player? The few I know rate him.
Konchesky - I did laugh when you signed him.
Poulsen - Was a low cost signing I believe? Haven't seen enough him to comment.
Cole - I think we all knew he wasn't as good as the press made him out to be but for a club on the slide looking for players he was probably worth a go for free.
Are we overlooking the myriad of Rafa disasters? Hodgson inherited a poor squad that is punctuated by 3 world class players. When they don't fancy it Liverpool don't. It's hardly surprising they are struggling if you are honest.

Having watched him live hes a talent as he's shown at Juve this season also he didn't want to go.

£4M

£5M signing on fee hardly free

What a strange thing to say when you think that poor team would of won the title but for a "speech"

It wasn't a poor team, I agree with you on that. You had a great midfield two, one of which Rafa managed to p*ss off. Alonso is easily one of the best midfielders in the world. Huge loss for your team, not unlike United's loss of Ronaldo in terms of importance to the team. It was time to go for Rafa, you were going backward. Not having won anything for 4 years. Not good enough for Liverpool football club. Move on, get a new a manager who can deliver what the fans want/deserve. 20 years and counting.

| Pig in goal for United and Obertan starts. Still no Nani. Feeling today will be tricky.

| Your right Alonso was a massive loss and I remember saying on here we won't win the title now he's gone.
Yes Rafa might of peed him off but would he of said no to Real either way?

Probably. Must be kicking yourselves not getting a Sneijder or Van der vaart back in the deal. There were rumours there were being offered but I'm guessing your wonderful owners wanted pure cash.

Your team with Alonso was considerably stronger than the team the next season. You had 4 world class players back then and a Carragher that could still cut it. Reina is still playing well but Gerrard isn't playing like he was a couple of years ago and Torres would be on the first flight out of Liverpool he could get this month.
Whatever went on behind the scenes after Rafa's "FACCCHHHTS" speech is what killed his reign. I seem to remember you being well clear at that point and then the wheels fell off. Though you did stuff Utd at OT. The decline after that speech and then the departure of Alonso killed the momentum Benitez had built. Choosing to replace Alonso with an injured Aquilani was a strange choice. Torres and Gerrard missed games and lost form last season, Carragher started looking his age. Throw in Benitez's love of internal politics and you have an untenable position.
Got Soccer Saturday on where they agree this Liverpool squad is poor . I'm jumping in the bath kid as we are going round in circles.
Happy New Year.
