A little query, how is it that for eg last night some teams thumped others yet its a complete reversal tonight?

Another win last night for the Reds on the back of scrambling some runs and great pitching.

Look at who is pitching, which teams are on winning streaks, losing streaks etc

Thats where i fall down, not sure of the pitchers

The rest i look at anyway, would you say home advantage is significant at all?

For some ball parks yes. Fenway park and Wrigley field are two that spring to mind. The two oldest ball parks in baseball that each have thier own quircks. Wrigley can be pretty tough to bat in if the wind is blowing in.

Some of the more modern ball parks just tend to be baseball friendly, so home advantage is not as big a deal as it once was. A couple of exceptions to that rule would be minute maid park, petco field and the Mets brand new citi field, each have thier own little tweeks that can help generate home field advantage.

It really does have a fair bit to do with the pitching. Linked to that, the manager will change players depending on who's pitching. Our manager wont play two of our lefty batters against lefty pitchers because they have a hard time with them. There's quite a bit of strategy and statistics involved. There's always an element of luck too, plus these teams play pretty much every day. Some days they perform better than others.
