He won't come back but I would have him in a heart beat, instead we are stuck with a clueless biff who was suppose to "steady the ship" good times.'"
I would have him over Roy, but it isn't a move that makes sense when you consider the direction the ownership want to take us. Bringing in a man who has a rich history of fighting with those above him would be a stupid move by the current owners, especially if it's just to appease fans that miss him.
Pacheco was given more of a chance under Rafa, but still wasn't given a proper chance; the chance he deserved. Nemeth was sold without even consideration, whilst Jovanovic was signed on a free with the probable view to play ahead of young players.
Babel was lazy, but why did Rafa sign him if he was lazy? If Rafa couldn't develop his work rate, why did the rest of his game never develop? I understand it's a two-way thing, but Rafa isn't a great coach at handling young players. His finest league season came when he managed to get an experienced squad of players playing regularly.
Roy is a crap coach, nobody denies it, but Rafa isn't the man to lead the club anymore. We need a complete fresh start to go with the current ownership, bringing Rafa back would be a calamity, IMO.

| Don't know why you bother with Wire85, Mark. He talks about as much sense as Rafa. Robbie or Wire Fanatic are the most sensible LFC posters on here but then again Rottens Rafa Review is often flawed as he's god as far as he's concerned.
A few LFC fans have said they want him back at LFC. But they were made up when he left? Football eh?!

Purslow, I think, but it was Rafa who didn't play him and it was Rafa that sent him away on loan and kept Voronin.

| It would be a big mistake for us to bring Benitez back, I wouldn't be in favour. He'd be a better bet than Hodgson is, but with the director of football model we're going with we almost need a coach rather than a traditional manager. I don't think Benitez would, or could, work under those conditions (as I think his time at Inter and his battles with Parry show).
It would almost be as big a mistake as bringing Dalglish in.

| Quote: Wire_85 "Kenny.'"
Why on earth would any sane Liverpool fan want Kenny Dalglish back?
Yes, he is quite rightly worshipped for his acheivements as a player, but as a manager his record is extremely dodgy.
Aside from a double almost a quarter of a century ago (which Everton handed them on a plate), his record is littered with breakdowns and mediocrity.
Yes, he bought another title in '88, but from then on he set Liverpool on a steady downward spiral, which was only halted when Houllier took over.
At Blackburn, with a huge (for its time) budget, he twice almost snatched defeat from the jaws of glory, firstly going for promotion, which he scraped through eventually via the play-offs, and then the famous title win, which he should have had sewn up about a month before the end of the season, but instead had to rely on West Ham holding on with Man Utd.
As for his Newcastle record, well it is that forgetable, that most folk can't even recall him having a spell there!!
If you throw in his long spell of inactivity and his liking for throwing in the towel when the going gets tough, then I fail to honestly see why anybody would want him running things??

| After the newspaper "revelations" that Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies has been out shagging with Tommy Sheridan, I wonder if the Forest will be lining up in a new formation on boxing day. Perhaps playing with one up front and two just behind in the hole?

This is a sort of problem, you see. Fans want what their heart wants, they want the romance of bringing Rafa or Kenny back, they want somebody the fans already have that 'connection' with, but in order to progress, we all have to start a fresh.
Getting rid of Roy should be the priority, the second should be finding the best coach available, whether he's English, Portuguese, Argentine or German, it should be irrelevant. Problem is, we don't know who will be making the decision of picking the manager (if/when we need one), Comolli's choice of Ramos is, in many ways, reminiscent of Chelsea signing Shevchenko: great pedigree, proven quality, but never ever suited to the league. I'm trusting of the new owners at the moment, they have acted very professionally since taking over, but the real test will come once some big decisions have to be made.

You should never go back managerial wise in football imo, it would be a big backward step to bring Benitez in now. We tried it through the early-mid 90's by bringing Kendal back everytime we got into trouble thinking he'd make things great again because of what he acheived in the 80's. Terrible decisions.

Those decisions may have to come soon as well, it's really in the balance over your boxing day fixture so that aside two home games inside five days and a cup to Old Trafford a week later, the Christmas/new year period could be huge for Roy.

Your brown envelope has been delayed in the post, fella!
Regarding Benitez, I don't want him back. He's had his time. He won the CL which was fantastic and took us to another final, won the Community Shield, FA Cup and Super Cup but still couldn't win the PL despite taking us to our best ever points haul and position.
I'm willing to give Woy to the end of the season but I don't feel he is the man for us either. He hasn't got enough to take us up to that level. He took a (no offence to Fulham) unfashionable team to the final of the Europa League and was rewarded with the LMA Manager of the Year award, but taking the LIverpool job was too much of a step up for him. I'll wait to see if he can turn things around (I don't think he can) but if we don't get CL foortball next season, he's got to go. It will then be a question of who would succeed him. People like Rijkaard, Van Gaal and Hiddink have been mentioned.
As for Benitez's successor in Italy, well I can't say I'm too overwhelmed with Leonardo. His only other coaching role was at AC Milan, took them to third and won rookie coach of the year, but then quit after one season when he wasn't getting the support he should have been getting. Who's to say he will get support from Moratti (who really didnt give Rafa much support). I can see him lasting 12 months too, and then deciding to bugger off.
