With Ashley's policy, we would have no chance of matching his wages.
Can see us scraping it and staying up.
Off last seasons form, and all considered squad improvements, we still easily have the measure of Blackpool and West Brom, which means we only need to finish above one other team - and as shown last year, there are a lot of poor and very inconsistent teams in the bottom half of the Premier League so I'm confident that come May we will be out of the bottom three. If we can turn St James' into an intimidating fortress that teams don't like playing at, then that could make all the difference.

No you didn't but you where less than complimentary about him when he left Newcastle in fact i remember you were laughing the fact you'd got the fee you did for him. He's obviously progressed since he played for you because I take you you where happy to see the back of him at the time???

I reckon we got a good fee at the time. He has certainly continued improving since to justify a larger price tag than we sold him for, but £25-30m is ridiculous.

Like I've already explained numerous times, I laughed at the fee because £12m was too much for him. As much as I liked him at Newcastle, he had some glaring weaknesses. Some of those weaknesses have improved massively at Villa whereas some still remain. I wasn't happy to see the back of him because he was a player I liked, so much so that he was on the back of my away shirt the season before we sold him but £12m was more than he was worth. Villa are wanting £30m for him, that's also laughable because he isn't worth anywhere near that. Half it and it's in the right area. He isn't worth £18m more than we sold him for just under two years ago.
I liked Milner as a player at Newcastle and still like him as a player at Villa. I'm pleased for him that he's ironed out some of the faults in his game whilst at Villa because he always put in the effort for us and never stopped working, hence why he was one of my favourite players.

| I really wish I'd have been listening when rlthisrl was on
FWIW I think Marlon King has every right to carry on his career. There's plenty of examples of footballers out there who have been given a second chance, one of them is at Bradford right now. What he did was a disgrace but he shouldn't be thrown on the scrapheap forever for it.

50086_1357229109.jpg [b:33tg3xj5]Me:[/b:33tg3xj5] I'm still reeling from the news that someone is considering watching the 1st and 3rd game on Saturday and NOT watching Warrington play. It's like being in Shea Stadium when the Beatles came to town and deciding to nip out for a fag.
[b:33tg3xj5]knockersbumpMKII:[/b:33tg3xj5] Is it FOOK, you're good but you're not THAT good, jesus you wanky fans need to get over yourselves, Beatles at the Shea in '65 was a once in a lifetime opportunity for some (despite the following years performance), you can watch a very good team in primrose & yellow play every week if you really wanted to but comparing it to one of the very best music groups of all time in an iconic stadia such as the shea is overegging your importance, you're not even the best team in SL atm:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_50086.jpg |

| Given is an excellent shot stopper, one of the best, but as an all round goalkeeper he's lacking. Doesn't command his area very well or take crosses. If he was a bit taller he'd be in the top echelon but he's just under for me. It can't be a coincidence that ever team he plays for leaks goals.
No issue for city of course; for the time being they have the money to buy anyone they want. Expect a bid for Casillas or Buffon in due course.

| Given's main attribute when he joined City was that he organised the defense better than Hart. His distribution was also much better.
I think Given is still just about a better all round keeper than Hart but I'd be disappointed to see Hart leave permanently. Ideally from a City perspective Given would keep the job for another season before handing over to Hart. But realistically I think City have to give Hart a chance or let him go.

| I'd have let him spend another season at Birmingam. He played exceptionally well, his confidence was high and he clearly showed he'd settled in there. Given is 34, 35 come the start of next season. Hart coming back to City for the start o next season could well see him take the number one shirt from Given and let's face it, having Shay Given as your reserve keepr is quite impressive.

It is, but he's not going to be happy with reserve football at his age. He's probably still capable of holding down a starting role in a premiership team for the next couple of years. Whoever gets the job I'd expect the back up to be putting in a transfer request in January.
