The club are now about to go through a long transitional period, where getting the club to be balanced off the field and financially will be the most important thing. Rafa will come in and want everything his way, he will want the club to be led his way, the type of player to be brought in must be his type, etc.

Simply put, Liverpool need a Wenger (if there are any out there?) not a Benitez, as the emphasis on youth and developing youngsters will be one of the biggest requirements of our manager, something I feel Benitez generally struggles with. If only van Gaal wasn't on the verge of retirement...

What he was in control of is irrelevant compared to the way he handled young players. Pacheco was barely given the shot he deserved; Nemeth not even considered; Babel seemed to go backwards under Rafa, whilst there have been countless amounts of reserve players brought in but never developed. Sure, he wasn't in charge of how youth players were coached, but he was definitely in a position to bring players like Nemeth and Pacheco on, but never capitalised on their good form, preferring experienced players like Voronin and Jovanovic.

With regards to the 'everything his way' comment, well, we're a club with a structure set in stone now, we have Comolli as our 'director', which means Rafa would have to come in and have people make decisions above him as well as with him. Complete control isn't something every manager needs, countless clubs across the continent rely on DOF's and 'transfer gurus', the belief that a manager has to handle everything from the boardroom to grassroots is something only believed in England.

Pacheco was given more of shot then he his being given now, Babel is a lazy tvvat and always will be and Jovanovic never played for him.

He won't come back but I would have him in a heart beat, instead we are stuck with a clueless biff who was suppose to "steady the ship" good times.
