| 94/3 at lunch, these two have steadied the ship.
Finn has struggled, the drop off in the standard of our bowling from Anderson and Broad with a new ball to Finn with an older one is pretty big.
Hopefully we can get stuck into them a bit at the start of the afternoon session.

| Great day with the ball from England. We need to get a decent lead in now and this match is ours.

| The Aussies are seriously rattled. Ponting and Haddin still seemed a bit peeved with the Harris lbw and at the end of play and got into a bit of a conversation with Strauss. The Aussies have more problems than a dodgy lbw decision to one of their tail enders. Could this be a sign of deeper issues here???

Let's hope so! I didn't see the Harris decision, but I was listening to the radio commentary at the time. Even Justin Langer admitted there was no reason for the third umpire to overturn the original decision as the ball would have just hit leg stump and the "hotspot" gauge didn't indicate he got any bat on it. Not sure why they should have a bone to pick with Strauss for appealling for a dismissal that, at worst, was clearly possibly correct.
Only worry so far is that Finn seems to be conceding runs too quickly.

| Great day for England, 245 on that pitch is a great effort.
One or two areas for concern though. Firstly Finn, still not convinced by him, far too expensive but he is picking up wickets which is saving him right now. Also Broad, his figure look great but he is wasting the new ball by bowling too wide, a lot of his deliveries are just let go by the batsmen so there is a lot of pressure on Anderson. Still as a unit we skittled them for 245 so not all bad.
The other thing is the pitch, it did a bit today so we really need to score big in our first innings as batting last could be a real mindfield.

Harris nicked it with the back of his bat, only slightly and it just about showed up on hotspot but not enough to overturn the decision.

That way you get the best of the bowling conditions on day one when it might do a bit and the best of the batting conditions on day 2 & 3. It does mean batting last of course which is not good at Adelaide but if you have a first innings lead then it would be worth it.
'"
Good toss to lose perhaps!

The aussies were miffed by the Harris decision because, unless Harris is in the wrong profession and should be an actor, he was clearly absolutely convinced he'd nicked it. But there was never any legitimate reason for over turning it and no reason whatsoever for blaming Strauss.
I cant see the aussies getting that many in their 2nd innings if they have to bat on the 4th or 5th day, so a strong batting performance should put us in the driving seat.

| Nodded off at the 6am drinks break so I missed all the late innings fun.
Seems we have got under their skin and they are a bit rattled, superb. Now we need to put in a decent batting display and turn the screw on them from here.
The only downside is that I am beginning to like Jimmy Anderson as a bowler bit too much, must remember he's a Lancastrian!

You know it makes sense mate
He's bowled absolutely brilliantly so far hasn't he? Certainly dispelling all the talk of him not being able to bowl in Aussie conditions.
And a very welcome return to form from Swann too. Put pressure on at one end on a fairly unresponsive surface.
No idea what Haddin was whingeing about at the end, maybe the fact that England just waltzed off after the 1 over even though it was well after the scheduled close of play time. I seriously can't stand him, he just looks horrible, seems to think he's brilliant when he isn't and he's always gobbing off. Nothing new in an Aussie cricketer I know!

There's something curiously self-righteous about the way these Aussies react to any controversial decision going against them. They seem to feel they occupy some form of moral high ground; there always seems to be an undertone to their reactions suggesting that, in the same circumstances, they would have withdrawn their appeal or would have walked. Which of course they always do.
I read somewhere last week that the advertising stickers on the reverse of a bat have a tendency to baffle the hotspot gadget, which of course can be an advantage if you get a thin edge into the keeper's gloves, but not if you get one into your pads. Swings and roundabouts really.

Definitely, he's stepped up, developed his use of their ball and has taken on the responsibility of being our lead bowler, fair play to him, I've always had my doubts about him but so far so good and I'm happy to eat a bit of humble pie if he keeps it up.

He's not Lancastrian anymore as he hardly plays for them, he's English now
