| Quote: Ian [77] ""A good point.
However, conversely, you could argue that when Liverpool won the European Cup the first 4 times, it was akin to the UEFA cup because there were only about 4 decent teams in it.
Swings and roundabouts.'"
Maybe, but that was before the days of the Big 4, and the complete domination of the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A. Quality players were more spread out between the European leagues.
I was only just born when we won our 4th European Cup, but my knowledge of football history isn't bad. There were still top quality teams from the likes of Holland, France and Germany, plus the odd exceptional outfit from Eastern Bloc countries. Added to that, you couldn't afford to lose a couple of games and then go on to win it like you can now. We just had amazing sides under Paisley and then Joe Fagan.
I know Liverpool did this in 2005, but Manchester United's passage to this seasons final hasn't exactly been the most challenging either. I don't think old European Cup victories should be valued less than the modern day Champions League, this is what I'm getting at.

| I've got a sneaky suspicion that Fergie won't take up the option to buy Tevez and will instead buy a winger and start to use Ronaldo more as a main striker when either Berba or Rooney need a rest

How can you even put them into the same sentence?
Lennon is so overrated. Don't really see the big appeal.

The last 2 times United have won it we have never lost a game? How did Liverpool get on in that respect in 2005?

Does that even matter? If you win it, you win.

It does when he said "you can lose and still go through".

I wasn't even aware Newcastle have appealed, and what do you think the chances of it being rescinded?
I doubt that they'll rescind it.

But you can these days, we all know that. The first point is to get out of your group, that is the main thing. you can lose the odd game along the way and stilll win the tournament.

| Made up we won the league saturday.
But like a lot of united fans, i'm very disappointed that it seems like Carlitos is going. I really think he is something who would die for the shirt, give 100% effort. The main point being apart from rooney who else as a striker chases back 60+ yards to win the ball back apart from Carlos?

Not sure really, it's tough to call. Still think it was 50/50 whether it was a red or not due to how far out Kamara was and where the ball was travelling.
