Mens 100m? Oh please. There is that much of a jizzfest about Usain Bolt that no-one gives a toss if a British male doesn't qualify for the 100m. Same with the 200m.
Oh, and there is a Brit in the final of the discus. Lawrence Okoye is his name. And Andrew Osagie has made the final of the 800m, so you're a little bit wrong there.

Just seen that he is and 1 now qualified for 800mtrs so apologise there but still feel the athletics have under-performed again.

But GB are top of the athletics medal table with 3 golds, 4 medals overall which is joint 4th.
The reason people think that GB have under performed in the athletics is because the media drum into people how awesome the 100m & 200m events are because Bolt is in it. They say the 100m final is the main event of the Olympics (well, the athletics part at least) so when there is no British interest, then of course people will think we have underperformed, whereas we've done brilliantly in other events that people wouldn't normally give a crap about.
But because, as I said earlier, there is this massive jizzfest about Bolt, people are only interested in the 100m & 200m. No-one normally gives a s*** about the 400m, 800m, 1500m. 110m hurdles. People only follow the 5,000m & 10,000m just for Mo Farah, follow the 400m hurdles for Dai Greene. As for the field events, no-one really gives a toss about them either. They only followed the javelin because Mick Hill and Steve Backley were contesting finals on a regular basis, Jonathan Edwards was world number 1 in the triple jump. The discus, shot putt and hammer events are a none entity because Brits hardly ever contest finals. The long jump has only garnered interest recently because Greg Rutherford won gold.
The Heptathlon is a perfect example. The media has gone crazy for Jess Ennis, so the public will follow her because she is getting plenty of exposure plus she is a Brit. Before Ennis came along though, and before Denise Lewis won gold in Sydney, can anyone say they really gave a crap about the heptathlon? And would anyone know who the other British heptathlete is?
So in all honesty, I don't think GB has underperformed much. If anything, I expected us to win less medals than I thought we have already got. People only pick up on things like this because they only tend to follow certain events what the media throw down our throats, or follow events that they only have knowledge in.

And in an event where we weren't even considered medal prospects either.

Commentators said he had a chance, mind you, they say that about everyone so far and he said he had his funding withdrawn as did the judo and the clay pigeon shooter....baffling really...we get the olympics and are given a 4yr cycle to bring people through..so what do they do,withdraw money...look at rowing and cycling...1 rower came through that 4 yr cycle and cycling go into schools and identify potential.

But I not dissing the cyclists. They're superb (very, very well funded though) however there was a time pre-lottery and all the money when British cycling was a laughing stock. Our athletes are doing well by our standards, we seldom get more than a handful of medals history shows.

They was but look at the strides they have made with i would imagine less money than the athletes but they know how to do it and the Athletes can/shold learn from it...is the funding performance related?

I doubt anyone man for man is better funded than our cyclists at present. They are the best funded cycling outfit in the world, that's why there are some many snide comments from other countries competitors.
I like to think of the back of this Olympics more young people will get involved in many of the sports, but especially athletics which isn't that glamorous to kids.

Been hearing about the comments from Hoy....pure jealousy and will the change the rules like they did after Beijing to try and stop us dominating again.Good point about the glamour point...id say rowing is more glamorous to kids as that gives you a very good chance of success but also, you have to want it as well...did you see the training how does and the remark about lactic acid?

To get the funding, they first had to be successful. To get the success, you have to look to the work Dave Brailsford was doing 10, 12, more years ago to drag British cycling from an afterthought to a professional unit. The building of the Manchester velodrome was a significant step in that process too, giving the squad a base.

| I have just come to a rather depressing conclusion.
In 10-20 years time I'm certain that 2012 will be seen as the pinicle of GB Olympics.
As such I am making sure I enjoy every one of our golds as much as I can and trying to catch as many of our gold podium presentations as possible and I'm singing the national anthem every time as well.

This has been the best two weeks of viewing sport in my life so far.
Team G.B have given the country a real feel good factor and i feel so proud of their achievements
So sad when it will come to the end...then our over payed, over hyped, selfish, arrogant, under achieving, moaning, whining footballers will take centre stage in the media for the next 9 months
