Saw MITB on Tuesday night, only just had chance to put a proper post on here. What a fantastic show, easily the most enjoyable WWE have put on since Mania. Nothing wrong at all with the pre-main event matches, but tbh for me it was all about the big match, and what an incredible one it was!
Unfortunately main events like that are few and far between in WWE these days, but when they do happen they are an absolute joy. Cannot possibly praise both wrestlers enough for the effort they put in, as well as the psychology and story-telling - absolute first-class (as was the involvement of McMahon and Laurinitis (sp)). The twists, turns and build-up helped make it IMO one of the matches of the year so far, and the atmosphere was incredible and unique to say the very least.
Full marks to what Punk and Cena managed to produce on Sunday. When WWE gets everything right about a big match like this it really is the greatest form of entertainment in the world. I was absolutely gripped by the whole match (and what a long one it was for a Cena bout!
), for me it really did have everything, inc suspension of disbelief, as well as a huge element of doubt which again, WWE struggles to create these days.
A thoroughly enjoyable event, and WWE deserves a ton of credit for allowing Punk to run with the ball so much the last month or so. To sell out a 'B-level' PPV in your home state to the tune of 14,800+ and be over like no-one since Stone Cold (whilst doing this as a heel) shows just what a fantastic and talented guy Punk is.
He knows now that he is in an almost Jericho or Rock-like position where (I believe) he can use WWE like his personal playground, i.e. just turn up and leave whenever it suits him, because that guy has proven that he puts butts in seats. Speaking of which, will be interesting to hear the buy rate for MITB, I bet it performed very well for a PPV of that stature.
Big up WWE, hate to say it but TNA will not come close to achieving anything like that for at least 20 years.
