The fact that Rodgers instigated a move for Sigurdsson days before 'reportedly' moving to Liverpool leads me to believe he wasn't expecting to leave South Wales and therefore wasn't Liverpool's first choice.
With Paul Lambert now being mentioned as a likely replacement for McCleish you have to feel for Martínez. He wanted to move on, to better himself but he's ended up losing out on two good jobs and having to stay at a club that everyone from the chairman and fans to the tealady knows he tried to ditch.'"
hope Lambert doesn't get tempted by Villa - hopefully his old mate Martin O'Neill has been on the phone to tell a few home truths about our Randy !
another season with The Canaries maintaining their Premiership place will really do wonders for Lamberts cv

And progessed to a point that Martinez hasn't yet managed with WA.
I think Rodgers is a great appointment. Another season and I'm sure someone else would have snapped him up e.g. Spuds. He has his team playing the right way which should appease the beautiful game supporters and Lineker summed it up best for me by passing that Rodgers has his finger on the pulse of what's happening tactically in football. Personally I think he will put Liverpool in the top four and hopefully he'll be good for Carroll's career as well.

England's attempt to replace injured midfielder Frank Lampard with disappointing Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson was blocked by UEFA on the grounds that it would bring the Euro 12 tournament into disrepute. Lampard was ruled out of the tournament after suffering a thigh injury during training and of all the players available to England from the professional ranks down to the amateur, they settled on Henderson. And UEFA will not stand for it.
"This is simply unacceptable," said UEFA president Michel Platini of Henderson's selection. "When they included Stewart Downing, we bit our tongues. But this is too far. We haven't figured out which rule these inclusions violate yet, but there has to be something in there against these kinds of shenanigans. Including Jordan Henderson is like match-fixing, but somehow worse."
The 21-year-old Henderson endured a poor season after joining Liverpool in a highly-touted £20-million deal last summer. Still, his two goals and one assist this were better than Downing's 0 goals and 0 assists in 36 matches.
When reached for comment, Henderson stated: "Sorry, everybody. I just hope I don't ruin England's chances of not winning."

I'm absolutely baffled about how Henderson has got selected??
I know we have dearth of talent in the English playing pool, but there are better players than Henderson, surely???
Of course I'm biased, but straight away I'd cite Leon Osman as somebody who is as good as Henderson, and, more importantly, is a more like-for-like replacement for Lampard.....I'd also agree that Carrick is a better choice and perhaps even Sturridge, even though he isn't neccessarily a midfielder, would be a better pick.
Actually, if you took 10 minutes or so, you'd probably be able to name at least half a dozen midfielders who are more suitable replacements for Lampard.

So Rodgers planning on staying at Swansea means he wasn't the owners' first choice? How'd you work that out?
Liverpool approached him, but he rebuffed us because he didn't like the openness of the interview process, i.e. contacting him whilst contacting Martinez. Like any manager, he should only listen to a club if he's guaranteed to be number one, otherwise he'll end up like Sparky. Rodgers was right to shun the initial approach, he'd have looked daft if he'd gone for it, then got rejected. How does that look to players when he asks them to stay instead of moving to a bigger club?
Still, I'm really unsure how our owners managed to go back to him and 'prioritise' him when they never had the chance to interview him. I guess whoever was/is advising them was incredibly keen.

Didn't say that did I, just said that I'm made up for the lad.
However, to answer your question, to play a young, honest, hardworking lad who will give his all over somebody who has turned his back on his country, then yes I would.

| To expand, I wish people would stop crying over Carrick not being in the squad, he told the FA this year that he doesn't want to play for England again.
Personally, I'd of took one of the Swansea central midfielders, probably Leon Britton. One if England biggest problems is ball retention, and he is excellent at that.

| Ecstacy to agony.
Lampard ruled out of Euro 2012 with injury.
Jordan Henderson called into squad.

| I'd even have preferred Michael Carrick, but he's yet another England player who's decided he has better things to do and/or is too important to be a squad player.

| Do people really care about the England squad anymore? Lampard, Henderson, Downing, whoever, they are all average and won't be beating down any of the European giants.
