Regardless of whether he's played top-flight football or not, he's very talented and would be a good addition to our squad. |

Well it is, in the fact that even if he had rejected their contract offer all they had to do was make sure they put it in writing - and they'd have been entitled to a fee for him when he signs for someone else.
Because they didn't do that they won't get a penny in compensation, so an admin error could potentially end up with losing them a couple of million quid.
