So does anyone know what Meireles is actually like? I only see Porto in the CL occasionally and paid little attention to the World Cup. Apparently United have trailed him for a while. Hopefully he'll be a good buy if he comes to Liverpool, though he's obviously in for a lifestyle and footballing culture shock.

Not the most gifted physically. Is decent at passing, crossing and an alright shooter, has good movement off the ball and likes to get forward, good work rate but he might struggle to find a 'role' in our side. As you can see, he's 27 and has only really established himself during the past two seasons. He was good for Boavista, but was only 'decent' at Porto for years. They tried him as a defensive mid, attacking mid and shifted him around a bit, but he seemed to work well in the midfield 'three' being the 'medium' advanced player. Not in the hole, not in front of the defence, but allowed to drift between both.

Some fans are getting stupidly giddy, I wouldn't be that excited as he doesn't strike me as a 'premier league' player, but if he settles well, we should have a good, reliable player. Much better than Lucas, not better than Xabi.

Meireles is a good all round midfielder, excellent in the tackle and a good shot on him. Not the fastest but good tackling and fairly good technically. If he adapts to the Premier League he will do a good job.

Maybe a lot of the Wigan fans are also rugby fans and decided to go down the pub to watch the CC Final instead of forking out the money for a trip to White Hart Lane?

Not sure who that referee was that was 'in charge' of us yesterday, but i think his protection of Joey Barton was an absolute disgrace.

He got clattered time after time, and you can imagine if it was Barton who had made those challenges, he would have been off.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Perch is a disaster waiting to happen. Every time he has a challenge to make or a dangerous run at him, his brain falls out of his *rse and ends up clattering them more often than not. Wolves should've have a penalty yesterday as he was nowhere near the ball when he sent one of their lot tumbling.

Can't wait til Simpson is fit again, or a new RB would be even better, with Simpson as back up and Perch purely as an odd-job squad filler.

Yeh i think Perch is the main weak link at the moment.

Even for a small sum (£1.5m), and he can cover a good few positions, still seems a waste of money. Which would seem hard if you had got a utility man for such a small price.
