We'll see.....To be honest, I'd rather we play badly in a meaningless cup competition than the league.
Tonight was poor, but to say that will end our season is being a bit silly.

Poor is a big understatement. Moyes has gone on about how he really wants to win a trophy. In the one competition where we have any chance, as the big clubs rest players, he goes and pulls that lineup out of the hat. I realise he is trying to rest some players to keep the League form going, but the centre of midfield was wide open. Fellaini clearly didn't fancy it as much as Moyes and him and Junior, who will never ever be a central midfielder in a million years, we were up against it.
Pienaar and Neville brought a sense of normality to the game, but it was always going to be Leeds who got the second.
In games like this we should have gone full strength, Baines included, from the start and brought players off for a rest if we were winning. Leeds are a shocking team but played better football than Everton managed throughout. I don't think we put two passes together at all in the first half. Oviedo was a rare bright point, looking very good, particularly going forward. Put Jelavic on the end of those cutbacks and it would have been different.

I agree with most of what you say (except the Oviedo bit, because he looked pretty poor to me), but if I'm honest I fail to get excited about this competition.
Yes, it'd be nice to actually win it, but the fact is, that if you don't, its a huge waste of time and energy....I'd sooner go out early than go through 4 or 5 games and end up not winning it.
Personally, I'd end this competition immediately - I've never got why in England and Scotland, in an era where cup comps are so undervalued by those taking part, we actually have to have TWO of them??
Do any other countries in Europe have 2 cup competitions?

Tad harsh that I feel. For his first real game in this country, I thought he was promising. Bags of pace and some clever balls and always willing to get forward. The run and ball to Anichebe towards the end of the first half was killer, had that been Jelavic, we'd have been level.

France has 'la Coupe de la Ligue' and the 'Coupe de France' so the same as in England - does all seem rather a nothing competition to me so maybe just an FA Cup would suffice with maybe home and away legs with away goals counting etc etc ?
thought Warnock did his homework on the key Everton players, especially Fellaini who was shut out of the game - not a great Leeds side but maybe a bit of credit to Mr Warnock ?

I think the top sides really wouldn't care if the league cup was scrapped. And some would probably opt out of the FA Cup if they had the chance.
But a lot of football league sides would complain that a welcome boost to their revenues was being taken away from them. For that reason I'm in favour of keeping both cup comps. The top sides have the squad size and strength to play their back up players and still be competitive, sides who haven't won anything for decades have a comp with much better odd for success.
Personally I think it's damning for managers like Moyes if they do "opt out" of the cup. Moyes has won nothing in his managerial career except a Division 2 title. He's supposed to be a candidate for the Man Utd job when Fergie leaves but he won't accept the challenge of lifting the league cup with Everton? Sides like Everton should be all over the League Cup, and shame on them that they're not.

| Really impressive for the kids tonight. So much inexperience in the side and it showed at times, but we outplayed WBA and completely deserved our win. Second goal was good build up play, hope they get to play the rest of the comp.

Said with all the arrogance of somebody who supports one of the 'rich' clubs in the league.
If the truth be told, only about 3 or 4 clubs have the depth of squad to be able to play their 'back-up' players and maintain a challenge for all 3 competitions.
As for saying 'sides like Everton should be all over the League Cup', what exactly are you saying?....Clubs like Everton should just go for the scraps, while you rich boys dominate the league and the Champions League places??
To be fair, the big boys would just love that because they know full well, that if sides like Everton and Newcastle stay fresh, then they actually possess a decent threat to their European dominance, as seen with Everton already turning over Man Utd this season.
Moyes, in my opinion, did the right thing - Yes, winning a trophy would be a nice reward for him personally, but in the grand scheme of things it means little. Look at how well the last 2 league cup winning managers have done and how it has improved their reputations.
Despite all the moaning, I think you can safely say that if Everton are still in the top 4 come January, then you will see the FA Cup rightly sacrificed in order to keep the Champions League challenge going.

It was said by a supporter who followed my side for 15 years with hardly a sniff of a trophy. I'm not going to suddenly turn my nose up at silverware simply because some people would deem the league cup as not worth winning.
I think the "we can't even be bothered" attitude that some managers, players and clubs display now towards certain competitions is one of the most damning indictments towards modern football.
If Everton "sacrifice" the FA Cup in favour of the Champions League qualification, then IMO they don't deserve either.
As I've said, if Moyes was interested in getting the Man Utd job then some idea where Wembley was might come in handy. But if he cannot cope with a decent Everton campaign league campaign along with good cup runs, then how can he really be expected to manage Man Utd with good CL campaigns, title challenges and cup runs on top? The top managers have faced more pressure games in a fortnight than Moyes has faced in his career.

Nuri Sahin is going to be a big player for us. Looks fantastic. Assaidi also may have found a gem.

The French have unveiled a statue of the great Zinedine Zidane outside the Pompedu centre.
www.google.com/hostednews/afp/ar ... 1f219.1171
The problem is, it's a statue depicting his headbutt in the WC final. Why? Surely you'd want a statue of him in his glory years as opposed to one of him possibly costing you the World Cup?
Saying that, it is the only time a Frenchman has been seen to attack someone
