| If WWE had had this "Your spot is where WE put you" mentality back in 1996, there'd be no Stone Cold Steve Austin. There'd be no Rock. Both those guys were allowed to go and get over with the fans and became mega stars.
Actually, I'd go one further. There'd be no WWE. They'd have been the ones to go out of business, probably followed by WCW and that would have been that. Wrestling as a spectacle would have died in the US and been reduced down to just the small indy shows.
Though, maybe that wouldn't have been such a bad thing, as it might have seen a return to the territory system and wrestlers actually learning their trade before being shoved infront of a camera with the same bland script as the last 6 guys.

| Anyone going to any of the WWE European tour shows? Just grabbed some tickets for the Shefffield Smackdown! House Show. Never been to a house show before so looking forward to it. Gutted I won't be able to get down to London to see Taker one last time though.

Like I said, the lack of competition has ruined things.
WWE know they have the monopoly and full control of mainstream wrestling.
Like it or lump it is their approach, as they still know people will buy the PPV's and go to the shows as there is no real alternative.
Not sure about TNA, but I can never manage to watch it for longer than 5 minutes at a time.

TNA seems too much like 2000 WCW. There's no real threat to WWE from them and if they do start looking like they're improving, I'd not be surprised to see their top talent raided by WWE. There's also the none-competitive clause that WWE has with a number of the larger arenas around the US, which means they can call up and say "we don't want you running any other wrestling shows on these dates" which pretty much scuppers TNA's chances of getting into bigger arenas and getting their product seen by a wider audience.

Very clever move from the WWE bosses.
Basically they've got the arena groups over a barrell - we will fill your place out easy, but if you don't play by our rules we will go elsewhere.

Exactly. It stops anyone getting close to breaking WWE's monopoly on wrestling in the US. Monopolies are always a bad thing in any industry and that's clearly exacerbated when it comes to wrestling given WWE's current product.

| It's been announced on WWE.com that Cena has injured his Achilles tendon while on the European tour. Might be a work, but if it's not then WWE is in some serious cack as it's two top guys are now out injured for unspecified periods.
On the other hand, it could be a blessing in disguise as it means some of the mid-card might actually be given a shot at breaking the glass ceiling.

This just proves how fundamentally stupid the WWE are.
They have buried how much talent to keep super Cena over? A guy who is quickly heading towards 40 no less, They should have been building new talent for years but instead of that they bury almost everyone to keep Cena at the top.
Shortsighted isn't the word for them but all Vince can see is $$$$$$.

| correct, and once they've stopped these guys in their tracks in dramatic fashion, there is often little way back unless they are so over with the crowd it is impossible for them not to get to where they deserve

| It seems the Cena thing is just a work so WWE can show how amazing Super Cena is by coming back from this injury in super fast time and totally burying Ryback and his nonsensical heel turn

| Agree RE: Ryback heel turn. He was just starting to get some sort of reaction and this has killed him off. Makes non sense at all.
Would have liked to see Orton turn heel and have feud with Cena for a few months, myself.
On a brighter note, anybody watch RAW on Monday and notice how the mid-carders and jobbers were not squashed as per usual? Made a refreshing change watching Orton v Rhodes (who desperately needs to find himself an angle, he's that good in the ring) and Ryder v Swagger.

The wost of it is that if you mention this on some wrestling forums you are classed as a hater even when you are making valid points.
I would go as far as to say that although Cena has earned WWE lots of $$$ he is going to cost them as much when he creates a black hole that they struggle to fill because the amount of burials they have had to perform to keep him up there.
I also like the reasoning that Cena has no say in his angles when it's clear that he does and that he could stop the 'Super Cena' angle any time he wants but that he doesn't because he enjoys being the 'It' man.
