1883.jpg Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union.

| Quote: Robbie Rotten "I was watching SSN the other week, and they brought up something like out of all of the top 4 teams, United had used the most players this year, something like 29 different players, and Liverpool had used something like 23. So to say rotation doesn't work is wrong, as the team at the top do it just as much as anybody else.
Other than the game against Pompey away (which we won), I can't really remember a game where Rafa has made stupendous amounts of changes. Maybe 'Boro away.
I think rotation does work, United have rotated and they're top, Scolari didn't rotate and they looked knackered and crap. I don't think you can blame our league position on rotation this time, sorry.'"
Having four/five different right backs would have a bearing on that.

| I don't think Liverpool are far off winning the title anyway. They certainly look better this year IMO. Started off extremely well and capable of winning the big games. The only thing to rectify is their home form, I recall a few needless dropped points at home earlier on which you wouldn't expect them to. When the only thing a side needs to sort out is winning rather than drawing a couple of home games, then you really aren't far from being a title winning side.
I wish Spurs were that close.
I also think anybody suggesting replacing Benitez with anyone is out of their minds, the guy is a top, top manager and Liverpool IMO were foolish to mess around with his contract. When you have a guy like that, he should be given total control of all squad related dealings.

O'Shea and Eckersley have also played there. In fact, I think in a couple of games Evans has had a spell there as well.

| Quote: Ande "I admit being one of the best teams in Europe is great and Benitez's record is outstanding yes but i'd much rather be one of the main forces within the Premiership.'"
You're joint second, having done the double over United and Chelsea. I'd say this year you are a force within the PL.
Quote: Ande "Something that Mancini did for his league teams was win the title, 3 years in a row. That shows quality within the league. he may not be the best man for the job but you could look for Bernd Schuster, Rijkaard, Slavan Billic etc.'"
That shows he was good in the Italian league, which is nowhere near as good as the PL.
Quote: Ande "Yes Rafa did make the signing of Torres and Benayoun and Skrtel etc but he now has to realise that he must play his BEST team week in and week out throughout the Premiership season, this is the thing that narks me and alot of other Liverpool fans off.
Rotation does not work look at United and Chelsea over the past 5 years for playing the best team week in and week out. '"
Liverpool have (apart from injuries) probably had the most consistent side selection of the top 3 this season, we've rotated in just about every game, through injury and through choice. Rotation works, it's just how you rotate your players, something Benitez got wrong in his first few years, but has since cut out.
Quote: Ande "As long as he continues to tinker and change and make quite frankly appauling signings then i will have reservations about him as Liverpool manager.'"
That's something I don't understand, he's brought two CL finals, with one victory, IIRC an FA Cup and maybe a Carling Cup, and he has got you closer to the PL title than other managers have managed.

So are you saying Benitez didnt want ANY of these players? Because thats a hell of a lot of players Liverpool have signed and still havent been anywhere near winning a premiership title.'"
How many of those were bought as youth players and not expected to be in the first team within 2 to 3 years though. Of course he's made signings that haven't worked out, which manager hasn't?
Some players don't translate well to the PL (this was the case with Josemi), some have potential that doesn't materialise (Gonzalez), sometimes (as was the case with a fair few of the earlier years of his tenure as manager) we just needed bodies to fill the squad to a decent level.
It amazes me that some think that because he doesn't have a 100% success rate in signings it should be used as a stick to beat him with. I wonder if these people have either forgotten the likes of Djemba Djemba, Veron, Forlan and Davis Bellion or just ignore them.

Have you actually watched these teams play over this time or are you just relaying dodgy media hype? I'll pretty much guarantee that they never go more than 2-3 games without having some changes in the team.

On penalties, after extra time, after conceding 2 equalising goals in the last 6 minutes of normal time.
In other news, Hamburg came from 2 - 0 behind at Galatasary to win 3 - 2 with a last minute goal, to qualify. Turks' goals were scored by two Liverpool rejects, Kewell and Baros.

| Quote: keithcun "Unlike Lord God Jose Mourinho, I can't see into the future, so I don't know if we will win the League.
The win at OT made it possible, but still unlikely. We are still 4 points behind, potentially 7, and with 9 games to go that still makes it a very hard task. What I will say is, after the win at OT, we are still in with a chance coming to the end of March, and it may put Man U under a bit more pressure, which is what any level headed Liverpool fan (Ande, take note) was saying is what they wanted at the start of the season. Any chance of winning the league has tended to cease well before now in previous seasons, so we are progressing, no matter what anyone says. The fact that we have been consistently good in Europe also shows we are on the right path.
Problem is, there are some, because of our history, and these tend to be of the younger generation, Championship Manager generation, note I said some, think we have a god given right to win the League, and would change the manager year in year out until we do, or suggest someone like Martin O'Neil, who couldn't hold a candle to the likes of Rafa. Of all these people who have criticised Rafa's new contract, I've yet to see one offer an alternative that would be better.
They just don't realise the scale of the job Rafa faced when he got here and whilst he's been here. They don't even understand why he's had to buy the players he has in the previous 4 years, but as I said, they are pretty clueless to be honest. They can't see what's in front of their eyes. I mean the bloke hasn't had much say what goes on at the Academy FFS, how can that be?
I don't think Rafa signing the contract will have any bearing on how we play just like I don't think it had any bearing on how we played whilst he was negotiating.
Well, if we don't win it, then obviously not.
At the moment we have shown on any given day we can beat anyone. We seem to have done a complete turn around from previous seasons where we have struggled against the top 3 and beat the "easy pickings" in the main. This year, for some reason we have struggled to beat the lesser sides, especially at Anfield, yet up to now, just dropped 2 points away at Arsenal against the top 3, beatin both Man U and Chelsea home and away.
We are at the stage now where we don't need to bring quantity in to the club to refresh the squad, the problem we have had for the first 3 seasons under Rafa, now we can concentrate on hopefully bringing in 1 or 2 top class players in to enhance the squad in the areas that's needed. Rafa thought that Keane could be a good addition to the squad, but it didn't work out that way, so he's gone, and I'm sure he'll try to bring in another top striker to replace him.
But there again, with the sale of the club up in the air, will the G&H splash the cash or will they sell. I think it's July they have to payback the finance, which is bang in the middle of when Rafa would hope to be signing players, so that could bring it's own problems.'"
Yes or no would have done
Liverpool have improved this season no doubt about it and what they need now in the close season is 1 or maybe 2 quality signings. Adding numbers to the squad would be the wrong thing and something Liverpool have been guilty of in the past. Bring in genuine quality and if he needs some more numbers then promote some young kids.
Liverpool have certainly put the pressure back on Utd and tbh I never thought it was over as there are always twists and turns in every title race but Utd have it to lose right now.
