Agree 100% with that and playing well in the summer in the States is a completely different kettle of fish to playing in October in Wales.
Add in the fact that Casey isn't particularly well liked by his peers too and it's not too much of a surprise.
I think he's planning on using Harrington as the "big name" and hoping that he'll rise to being the team's number 1. It's a gamble considering he hasn't won a Ryder Cup match since 2004 but it's one I think most people would take.

He's not won a Ryder Cup match since 2004 AND his form stinks. To leave in form players out like Rose and Casey for somebody so clearly out of form seems a bit daft to me.

| I'm surprised and I must say a little disappointed with Monty's choices to be honest.
Luke Donald is the biggest one, he would have never been in front of Casey for me. How Casey isn't in I'll never know, top ten player in the world, 8th to be exact - third in the Open and an excellent player. I thought Rose deserved his place following his two wins on the PGA Tour this year also.
I'm not surprised Harrington was in, he was a cert from the start regardless of how he performed lately. He's game has slipped backwards this year for me and I'm not sure he warrants a place ahead of two players who are really playing well this year (Casey and Rose!).
I'm really pleased he's put Molinari in, both look superb players and have long successful careers ahead.
Who would everyone have picked had they been in Monty's position?
Mine would've been:
Molinari
Rose
Casey
I thinks it's barmy to over look them three.
But having said that, I can't wait for it to get going now!!

| I'd have picked the same 3 as you. I know Padraig is a multiple major winner but that was a couple of years ago now. His major record for 2009 and 2010 is crap. He just seems bang out of form. Big risk for Monty and I think we will know if it's paid off on the first morning.

Spot on, exactly what I was thinking. I feel let down by Monty because I believe he's picked him on name only not on his form. I'm amazed he's left Casey out. Big mistake for me.

| Will Pavin pick Woods?? Course he will (as would everyone and anyone else) despite his form being shocking and not having the greatest Ryder Cup record.
Harrington is still world ranked in the top 20 so it's not as if he's picking a complete randomer...and in his last 6 tournaments he's had a 9th, a 2nd and a 5th place finish with 13 other top 10 finishes in the last 12 months - cant be that badly off form can he?? Casey has had 1 top ten finish in his last 12 events too.

Anyone would pick Woods, of course they would. You'd be stupid not too, comparing Woods and Harrington? deary me.
I just feel Harrington's form now and this season has been very poor it doesn't warrant a place on the Ryder Cup team and I think it will show again in October. It's just my opinion but I think Casey is a better golfer at this time and thats what matters. He's been picked on name only, very dangerous.

| Well results/finishing places alone show that he's been in better form than Casey over the past 12 tournaments whether he's played the better golf or not is another matter.
And I wasn't comparing Harrington to Woods per se, I was just saying Harrington is, arguably, our biggest name and as such will get more leeway, as will Woods on the American side of things.

Woods is still and has been world number one for years, it goes without saying he will get a place. If Europe has the world number one and he needed a wildcard I'd fully expect it.
The fact that Casey is 8th in the world and Harrington is 19th tells me who has been playing the better golf during this year and should've told Monty. I still don't believe Harrington warrants a place just because he's Harrington. Not only that during 2010 Casey has picked up 163.87 points in the world rankings whereas Harrington has 104.04 points. Don't get me wrong I've always loved watching Harrington but imo Casey would've been the better choice.
Who would your picks have been?

| The right choices were made I feel, Rose and Casey are unlucky but knew what they had to do before it all started.
Harrington is a huge player for Europe and had to be picked, Molinari played superb yesterday and deserved his place and I would have gone for Donald ahead of Rose/Casey.

| I would have definitely gone with Harrington and Molinari, the other one I had open would have been Rose/Casey/Donald. With Donald having finished 3rd at the Welsh Open earlier this year I think that may have swung it his way for me.
At least it shows the strength in depth we've got when we've left out players of the talents of Casey, Rose, Garcia, Stenson, Karlsson.
The players who decide to chase the US dollar know beforehand that it's harder for them to get into the Ryder Cup team so it's no use them moaning about it afterwards.
