| Quote: Conroy "Heard things like that for years from the red side of Merseyside. What was the excuse when Torres and Gerrard were upfront and you bombed the league by dropping points against the lesser teams in the league like Fulham, Wigan, West Brom etc? What was the excuse last year with the King in charge when you dropt points against teams like Fulham, Wigan and West Brom?'"
Obviously, I wasn't speaking so literally. Results like that will always happen, but the past few years they've been a too regular occurrence. The point I'm making is: with a better striker to partner Suarez, in a game like today where we start better, create more and look the better side, we'll capitalise on that play more often than not. We lack the mentality to kill teams off, whilst our defence hasn't been anywhere near strong enough to keep us in close games. That's not a view on today, that's a view on the past two/three seasons. I'm hoping things will change, but change doesn't take place until you get rid of the dire personnel. As shown today, Suarez was on fire for the majority of the first half, but you can't expect him to do everything offensively and score the goals, he needs support but he didn't get it today. I can accept Borini struggling, it's early doors for him and he'll have time to improve, but Downing is an established player who's never proven his consistency, Gerrard too is established and you can't accept sloppy play like today. Today was too much like last season, a combination of wasteful play, poor play and bad luck resulted in a dire result and overall poor performance. These 'reasons'/'excuses' have become so normal you start to wonder if it is bad luck. A game like today I would normally brush off as 'one of those days' where nothing goes in your favour, but I've seen that happen so often I have to question the attitude of the team.
I'm confident in Rodgers, I think he'll identify the problems and get rid, I just hope he does it sooner rather than later.

| And we are supposed to be going for the Champions League qualification places this season? Oh please.
First thing i will be doing in the morning is removing Pepe Reina from my fantasy league.
4th place? We'll be lucky to get into Europe again this season. I can sense yet another atrocious season on the horizon.

| Fancy the Latics to get at least a point today. Quietly confident of a good season this year if we can build on the ending to last season. Our usual problem is the loss of our main players but that's not happened this year so hopefully the continuity will still be there and we'll pick up some good wins along the way to a mid table finish.

If Roddy is any indication, no.
Quote: richie166 "Could he be just what they need?'"
He's nearly 33 years old and has scored 5 goals in the last three years. I hope that Liverpool sign him even more than I hoped they'd sign Joe Cole.

I'm not one of the blind followers thinking everything is going to be fabulous under Rodgers and that it's going to be our year. If things get turned around then fair play and I would love to be proved wrong. Don't get me wrong, I'm gutted about the result, but I don't think we have the ability to challenge for the top 4 and if you don't like me saying that, then that's your decision. I'm not apologising for what I think.

| Everton have announced the signing of Kevin Mirallas. I must admit to being both shocked and delighted.
It's a surprising signing though, does this herald an era of new found confidence from Moyes? Are we actually going to play with Jelavic, Mirallas, Pienaar and Naismith in the same side? Or will it be a case of 1 up front and either Mirallas or Jelavic starting?

Probably depends on how we start.....If we have our usual awful start then I expect Moyes to revert to his tried and trusted 4-5-1, using Feillani has his 'Cahill' with Gibson, Neville, Pienaar and Osman making up the 4 in midfield.
I don't see Naismith and Mirallas in the same team though to be honest....Think it'll be one or the other in most matches with them.
Personally, I see the strongest side as Howard- Hibbert/Neville, Heitinga, Jagielka, Baines- Osman, Feillani, Gibson, Pienaar- Naismith/Mirallas, Jelavic.....though I'd like to see at least one more right sided midfielder added to the squad.

Official approach for Adam Johnson made today according to Man City. Season long loan deal, only complication is Sunderland have put in a cash offer for him, but he prefers the move to Everton apparently.
Great start to the season for Hazard and Chelsea. I just hope Everton's season doesn't start with as much fear tomorrow.

Sorry mate, don't rate him that much, though I guess a loan deal would be relatively low risk.....Much prefer a team player like Phillips from Blackpool, who could learn the Moyes way, rather than a showboater like Johnson, who would be another Drenthe.

I don't know, but I'm hoping the advertising boards meant Manchester as opposed to Man City when they advertised the new shirt with the words "SHOW YOUR CITY"
