| On top of that, can you imagine the people holding the purse strings would be happy with a keeper picking up 100K a week while sat on the bench.
Best result all round, fingers crossed for Reina that Barca come in for him next year when Valdes leaves.

| LFC players blowing smoke up the LFC fans asses. It's what they have to do from the moment they sign for the club, all Reina is doing it is carrying on after he leaves.
Don't have any issue with LFC moving him on. That happens all the time. It's part of the game.

| Think it speaks volumes about how rapidly Reina has declined from one of the world's best to just another 'keeper in a matter of two seasons. Part of it lies at the feet of those in front of him, but he was a £25m+ 'keeper a few years back who we bent over backwards to keep, now we're not even concerned about loaning him out. Are Napoli even paying his entire wage? I'd be surprised if they were.

| Quote Lord God Jose Mourinho="Lord God Jose Mourinho"For me Maradona stands at pretty much the front of the "Gods of Football". But that's mainly because he dragged Argentina to a WC win. His club career was poor in comparison'"
His exploits at Napoli outstrip even his International career IMO. The greatest player I have ever seen. The thought of him playing now on the lovely pitches with two-footed tackles, tackles from behind, any mistimed tackle a yellow, awful defending standards and rule changes, such as the back pass rule/amendments to the offside rule, all created to assist attacking players, is scary. Probably the same for George Best too.

Maradona won 2 titles in Europe.
Arjen Robben has 5 (major) titles plus a CL.
Messi has 6 titles and 3 CL's.
Ronaldo has 4 titles and a CL.
Taking Napoli to their only ever league titles is commendable, but is it really where the greatest player in the world should have been plying his trade? I don't think so. Too busy snorting his talent away IMO.
I love Maradona as a footballing God. I don't blame him for the goal against England (I blame Fenwick and Shilton more than Maradona). But I do think his club career was nowhere near what it should have been.

Football was a different place then. The rich clubs were, proportionately, not as rich then as they are now. It was quite a coup for Maradona to end up there, but talent was generally more spread around than concentrated at a few massive clubs as now. Also, the kleptocrats in charge of the club wanted to make a statement and we've seen modern-day kleptocrats do likewise in very recent history.

That's a fair point. The booting he got from Andoni Goikoetxea certainly hindered him at Barcelona, Sevilla was a bit of a bust. His peak was undoubtedly at Napoli.

I see what you're saying, but I don't personally subscribe to the idea that if a player's club career is less successful it reflects badly on him, or vice versa.
Signori and Mendieta never won anything, and Torres won nothing in his prime but managed an FA Cup and Champions League whilst being one of the least effective strikers I've ever seen, with a whopping 11 goals that season (about 1 every 4 and a half games). Zola only managed 1 league title and a few cups, but he was clearly a fabulous player.
On the other hand, Phil Neville has 6 Premier League titles, 3 FA Cup Winners' medals, and a Champions' League to his name, all in the space of 8 seasons.

John O'Shea has 5 titles and a CL to his name. John O'Shea.
It was a bit more then commendable mate! They had been a relegation threatened team and had never sniffed a title. They won 2 titles in his spell and a European trophy and have never one a single trophy since he left!
He was a real bad egg was El Diego no doubt about that and understandably there is not too much love for him in England but my God he was blessed with a footy. All that said I do love Messi I just hand on heart believe football is so geared for attacking players now that stats get distorted. He would still have been a genius in any era but nowhere near the goal-scoring stats he has now. IMO of course.
I can't quote for sh it
