| I agree r.e the decisions but the reason United wont go through is they aren't good enough in the centre if the park.

| Not so sure about that. They were in charge until the sending off & but for a few great saves since could still have done it. They shut Alonso down brilliantly & Madrid didn't really threaten that much until they had the extra man.

| The Nani sending off decided the tie. United would have won but for that.
I hate referees like that, so determined to have all the attention on himself. The way he strutted around like a peacock after it was ridiculous. There is just no common sense in football anymore, no rational thinking.
I hate United, but games like that leave a really bad taste in the mouth, you know there is an injustice happening. With all the betting/match fixing scandals going on, it does make you wonder just how much of it is real.

| I'm not justifying the decision, but I don't think it's as clear cut as people like to make out. Yeah, massive game, ruined the occasion etc., but that has sod all to do with what was actually an orange card offence.
I've seen much less given a red, I've seen red cards purely for being reckless without the contact.
Felt like United were always going through up until the decision, but they collapsed after the red card. As soon as Madrid went two up they knew it was over and cruised, they could easily have turned it on and made a mockery out of it but the occasion didn't call for it.
Some cracking stuff on Twitter about Keane tonight, really tickles me up.

The fact that we've seen referees give even worse decisions in the past shouldn't be an excuse for this mistake tonight. It was blatantly obvious Nani was trying to control the ball and was not in any way intending to hurt anyone. Show some common sense and show him a yellow. Or better still show him nothing and just give a free kick. The game was played in a really good spirit and it's daft that a player was sent off and decided the outcome. The ref should be punished for it and banned for a long time, if just for his arrogance.

What is intent in the modern game? Nothing, it has no relevance any more. Rooney regularly lashes out and kicks players with intent, but most of it is harmless and refereed like so.
Go back and watch the actual clip, look at where Nani's foot hits Arbeloa, look at which part of Nani's boot hits him, look at the speed of the play and tell me that it wasn't dangerous. There wasn't intent, but intent is irrelevant. Ibrahimovic was sent off in similar circumstances the other week against Saint Etienne, he was clearly trying to get the ball but you can't raise your boot that high, connect and then expect the referee to forgive you due to lack of intent. It's dangerous play and anything dangerous will always be in the grey area of yellow/red.
When I seen he'd shown the red I was shocked that he'd given the red in such a game, not because he'd given a red for the challenge. The spirit of the game is no excuse, the referee should call every decision individually and I felt there was enough reason for the red. If a yellow was given nobody would have argued, as I said before, I've seen much less given a red and it hasn't been contested. It doesn't make this one any more right, but it shows that people are using the occasion and emotion to protest a call they usually wouldn't.

| Final replay after Nani had been given the red shows he made a slight lunge after the initial contact, which means it was a completely correct red.
Not sure how much the ref knew about that though...

| I may risk coming across as childish here, but I found it hilarious and almost refreshing to see United coming unstuck with a referee's decision at Old Trafford for a change.

| I was having a little chuckle at Man. Utd. finally getting a bit of payback from a dodgy referee while listening to Five Live on the way back from MK tonight, but having just seen the actual tackle on Youtube for the first time... What the **** is anyone's problem with the red card exactly? As clear a sending off as you could ever wish to see. What else could Nani have done apart from attack the guy with a hatchet to make it much worse?

| Nani was clearly attempting to control the ball and Arbeloa runs into his foot and duly falls over and does a standard 2 or 3 rolls for good measure, and Nani gets a red... Bizarre. Still glory hunting at your not-hometown club, saint? Bizarre. Roddy agreeing with the red... Bizarre. I'm just waiting on LTS to blaze in with 'King Luis is miles better than RVP and would have scored 3'.
Shit happens, and if we walk away with title 20, leaving the gobsh*tes crying about Mr Ferguson and tropyless, tonight will be forgotten.
