but I know i'm a bit thick but isn't it in the interests of the other SPL members to help Rangers in order to help themselves ? isn't the SPL stronger with them rather than without ?
that's the bit I don't understand - it's like all the other SL teams voting to kick out Bradford !'"
It's a great chance for most SPL clubs to start certain things afresh with regards to how they are run which will ultimately benefit them.
SPL clubs shouldn't be running a club based on the fact a couple of other clubs bring a lot of fans to the ground in the first place. For example, while a lot of it was scarmongering from a Rangers supporting Motherwell director, they were saying how they, the 3rd placed team and potential champions' league team, may go into admin if Rangers aren't in the league. That's just not healthy from a number of angles and if that's the way Scottish football is then they should just pack it all in at every club.
Hopefully a few extra fans will come out now in support of their teams, a view glory-hunting rangers fans can support their local team and all the clubs run to their own fan base in a more competetive league. Celtic may still run away with it for a while but they'll lose a bit of money from things like TV and hopefully they'll be keeping eyes on running costs and the like and try to balance the books more if they're not getting into europe etc thus dropping their standard. Who knows, maybe this could be the start of the SPL being won by another team other than the Old Firm. It may take a few years but we're already in a position where the fans are looking forward to next season more because rangers aren't there.
