| Had a search of the Sports Forum and couldn't find any other threads that follows this theme.
Anyone on here participate in swimming? Last year I decided to have a go at Open Water swimming as a precurser to possibly having a go at a triathlon (I have always been a bit of a runner).
I have entered the Great Eastern Swim on 11 Jun and notice that the Great Salford Swim in this weekend. I have been training for about 6 months on and off and completed my first Open Water swim last week (which I really enjoyed).
As my interest has grown I have search the web but there doesn't seem to be any single resource to tap into for training and events, just lots of disperate webpages (BLDSA, ASA, Open Water Swimming Society etc)
Anyone on here long distance swim regularly? Any advice you can give?

| I'm doing my first Triathlon in July. Only a sprint distance which is:-
800 metre Swim
20k bike ride
10k run
I'm up to full race distance on all 3 disciplines, just need to piece them together. Assuming it goes well, I might try Olympic Distance next year (which doubles the length of each discipline).
The swim is by no means a long one but if you're looking for tips, check out stuff on Triathlons - loads of stuff in the various magazines and websites.

| I can swim 1500m open water comfortably and most of my pool sessions are around 1500m. I am also running about 30km per week (4 x sessions) so I am happy that I have a base fitness and my focus is on the swimming at the moment. I rode a lot when I was younger but haven't done any serious cycling for about 15 years so a bike and some serious training would be in order before attempting a triathlon; finances and time are putting a stop to both at the moment.
I was thinking of giving an Aquathlon (swim, run) a go if I can find one. The problem is that anything involving open water swimming (that isn't a triathlon) seems to be concentrated around London or the Lake District.

| An excellent weekend at the Great East Swim. Nearly 1300 finishers in the 1 mile swim, not sure how many took part in the 2 mile and 800m races. A second win in the series for Thomas Lurz in the Elite men's 1 mile and a fine effort from Brit Dan Fogg despite having missed a turn at the half way bouy.
