| Quote --[ WW --="--[ WW --"Agreed. I think that there is more than one or two that bad mouth the rugby. I remember years ago, before they got in the prem, going to a latics match and hearing the chants of "if you hate Wigan rugby clap your hands", but then we sing "fu** the latics" in one of our songs, so it's a bot pot/kettle for us to say we hate them for saying nasty things about us
'"
In the Hogs Head pub on Deansgate,on the day of the Grand Final,Latics were playing Wolves, there were rugby fans in there shouting for Wolves.

| Quote Owdpopularsider="Owdpopularsider"When you say majority of their fans do you mean the real fans ie 1500 that watched in the dark days? If so im with you, Or the thousands or cretins that woke up on 9th May 2005 and if by magic turned from a Utd/scouse fans into a 'true blue 25 year supporting five knuckle shuffler' then I dissagree completely........'"
Once upon a time, we used to only get 4-5000. Are you saying the extra 10,000 that showed up in the mid-80s were not "real" fans? Are the extra 5,000 fans we get now compared to 8 years ago not "real" fans?

To be fair, how many of those 'extra' fans used to support Leyth or St Helens? It's not really a fair comparison.

| Quote hula89="hula89"Thing is, as Lenegan has proved, Whelan isnt the best at running a club anyway '"
Whelan is good at running a club, he just lost interest in us when Latics were on the way up, backed up by Maurice who was well past his sell by. He misread the situation, believing that rugby fans would flock to see a high flying football team, when in fact our gates have increased significantly during Latics' time in the prem.

Exactly, it works both ways. The way people talk on here you would think rugby fans are all angels who have never done anything to cause tics fans to dislike us. A lot of people on both sides need to grow up

Oh dear Martin youve seem to have completely mis-understood my 'beef'...
As Ive said previously I dont really mind the glory hunters as each club has them be that Wigan RL, Tics or any other club.
But these extra Wigan RL fans you point out in your posting, have the vast majority of them supported Stains, Wire or Leeds in the past?

How do you know the vast majority of "new" Latics fans have supported someone else in the past?

You can't compare the 2. Wigan RL have always been a big club. When I was at school a lot of kids supported Latics half heartedly, and also supported a Premier League team, because when you're 10 you don't give a $hit about the lower leagues, not many people give a toss full stop, and everyone wants to support one of the big clubs with all the glamour and coverage that the Premiership has. Obviously when they made it big (ish) those people who supported Latics and also had a "big club" went full time with Latics

| Quote Wigan/Leeds Andy="Wigan/Leeds Andy"How do you know the vast majority of new Latics fans have supported someone else in the past?'"
OFFS Andy have you no mucktags to pick off?
I can only go off my experience, Since 1990 Ive worked in 3 workplaces around this town with a combined workforce of approx 2100 staff. Of these 2100 people I can only remember around 15 that I can geniunley say didn't support any other club but Tics. I can tell you now, I could probably x20 the amount of people that now claim to watch TICS on a regular bases that we all knew had done a chameleon like change. Come 2005 people that I knew previously had supported UTD, scouse teams (even adorning the red devils/liver birds tatoo). The vast majority of Tics fans I know HAVE supported other teams in the past.
Having got to know the staff over a 21 year period I could even write down a list of tics fans with past alligences.
Im pretty sure other Wigan RL fans will concur with my experience, and have very similar examples.
Once again Andy I fail to see how somebody that doesnt live in the town can comment on the issue Ive brought up.
