If I had a pound for every player, RR has claimed to have seen years ago on a regular basis, whilst plying their trade in some random eastern european country id be rich now.

I think they'll be decent owners for you, provided that nothing goes wrong with their other businesses.

| Liverpool have apparently appointed Damien Comolli to oversee recruitment drive. Good news if true.

Enjoy watching Alan Hutton, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Younes Kaboul every week.
Some of Commoli's highly regarded acquisitions while at Spurs.

Kaboul came back to be a good player for them. Boateng is now at Milan and impressing. Wouldn't mind the likes of Modric, Bale or Berbatov here, whilst I'm pretty sure he 'found' some good players for Arsenal in his time there.
Comolli's reign at Spurs is often criticized due to a poor error in judgment by appointing Juande Ramos. He signed some good players for them and some of their better players right now were signed by him. He never coached the players, he just signed them.

He's been appointed as Head of Football Strategy. Good experienced man to have aboard.

Agreed. Still, that doesn't mean I'm saying Comolli is the greatest DOF or whatever, but I think he's more than capable.
The problem with a DOF, though, is it often disrupts the manager. When a manager is in charge and a club bring somebody else in to make some of his decisions, friction immediately appears and, when things start to go wrong, the finger usually goes straight to the DOF.
I personally believe a DOF should be appointed first and then a manager; however, I'm not sure how great Comolli is at judging the suitability of manager after he brought Ramos to Spurs, which simply didn't work.
Still, I hope that brings an end to Roy signing carthorses like Poulsen and Konchesky.

There's a great myth in the Premier League that the DOF thing doesn't work and is usually dismissed out of hand. I still think it can work, it all depends on who the manager is and their ability in the transfer window etc but I think it can work. It obviously has it flaws, as you rightly say it often disrupts and p[ii[/isses a manager right off if someone is brought in over there head to make decisions but if a DOF is appointed first the manager at least knows what they're in for.
You think it's something that could work for you? Roy is a decent coach, I think he's shown that throughout his managerial career but in the transfer window he has been found wanting, he's brought some poor players in for you and going by the transfer talk today he's interested in Hangeland, Pavlyuchenko and Wright-Phillips. Someone like Comolli could bring the players in and Roy coach them, it could work.

From things I've read, it is generally dismissed by English managers as most managers are lazy and act like DOF's themselves, i.e. they prefer to let the coaches coach the players and so on, whilst they look more into the player recruitment side of things, that is why they often take offence when somebody is brought in to do a role they feel should be their own.
It's been shown across the continent that the DOF works exceptionally well if the structure is done well and organized well. Comolli is a safe appointment, he's clever, experienced and has worked over here before, but I still doubt Roy's view of it. Roy's old school and the way the team are playing doesn't fill me with the view that he's the one.
Still, we could have appointed Dennis Wise.

To be fair if recommending someone who was running rings round players as a 17 year old qualifies you as a guru I reckon I could give it a stab.
