| If you want to see how scrum half should be played, watch some old Wigan videos with Andy Gregory at 7. The guy was everything you would want in a 7. He was a little general who bossed the team, he could throw miracle over head passes, open the tightest defence with a delayed short pass, run at the biggest men on the field and cause sparks to fly, kick long, kick short.
Why is he not involved in the game in some way? He could teach young British half backs so much.

| Andy Gregory was a wonderful player but in a completely different era. I’m not sure him coming back would achieve much if I’m honest. I’m happy to just retain my memories of him.

He did have a moderate coaching career when he finished but then drifted out of the game.
Great players do not always make great coaches.

Reason he left the game was due to his well documented problems with drinking at the time. If you read his book, he used to have the Salford team in training at first light so that he could get to the pub for dinner time. His book is a cracking read. Dont forget it was his Salford team that knocked us out of the Challenge Cup and the half backs Mark Lee and Steve Blakeley tore us apart that day.
Im not asking for him to become head coach, but maybe he could help our half backs? Surely a player with so much experience and such a natural ability to open up defences could offer something?

That’s working on the presumption he wants too.
He’s been out the pro game a long time and as Ashton Bears said, he’s happy enjoying a pint or 6 in Bryn Labour Club or The Pit Pony and working on the canals.
It’s the games loss he left it without much fanfare or help but times move on and change.

| Andy Gregory was a truly great player. Back then (for most of his career if not all of it, I can't remember) it was 4 tackles not 6 and 5m not 10m at the PTB. Is there a half back in the game today who could unlock a defence with those rules?

He may not be interested but id be tempted to ask him even if its only for a few hours a week.

Not that i know of. He could even do it against the Aussies at his peak. Some of the things he used to do with the ball were magician like. Imagine how good he would of been with todays modern training and fitness techniques.

| We have a once great number 7 as our head coach and our halves have been crap. We also have one of the best tacklers I can remember in Mick Cassidy on the staff but our defence has been awful for the majority of this season. Bringing back the old boys I don’t believe is what we need. Respect the past but look to the future and bring some fresh ideas in to the club.

| maybe you should re-mortgage central park again and buy all the best players again. Worked last time. You still have Central Park right?
