The comment about McGuire I feel is quite derogatory saying he is a support player, if that was so easy then every other half would score as many as he has. Im not going to even dignify the Sir Kevin comment with an answer.'"
Dallas played for both Aus ans QLD and had offers to go back home all the way through his Wigan career. You can feel how you want about McGuire as it is easy if you have pace to back up. You dont have to comment about Sinfield as we all know he is a kicker...cheerio

If it's that easy why don't other players do it. I've said the same when people said Edwards was only a "support player" It's about reading the game and McGuire does it very well, and so does Myler at Warrington. When I was in Aus in 2008 McGuire was the ONLY English back that they rated.

Not many half backs have that pace do they?.....Edwards was also a ball player as he didnt have that burst of pace in his latter years, he used to linger behind the defensive line waiting for a break to happen. The Aussies also rated Chris Thorman look how that turned out.

| Since beginning to watch wigan in the late 90's early 00's my favourite team would be
1. Radlinski
2. Dallas
3. Renouf
4. Carmont
5. Richards
6. Tomkins
7. Lam
8. Pongia
9. Newton
10. O'Connor
11. Fletcher
12. Farrell
13. O'Loughlin
Barrett and Hoffman just miss out. Barrett was a great player who never really shown up when we needed him to (Challenge cup semi against catalan) and Fletcher just gets in over hoff!
and for super league since I have been watching
1. Radlinski
2. Vainakolo
3. Hape
4. Lyon
5. Dallas
6. Tomkins
7. Long
8. Fielden
9. Cunningham
10. Morley
11. Farrell
12. Peacock
13. Sculthorpe

If it that easy to be a support player, why didnt the messiah Trent Barrett score 30 tries a season? It is a skill being a top quality support player just like being able to throw an awesome dummy or a brilliant pass, however McGuire is more than just that, in 2010 he played his best season since 04 if not ever because he not only scored loads of tries but created alot too.
Saying Sinfield is just a kicker shows an unbelievable lack of knowledge and short shortsightedness! He is the best captain there has been in SL as well as the most successful and that includes englands new ra ra coach, who although a good leader had a detrimental affect on the team because he overshadowed his team mates. This has been documented on several GB videos and blogs by players and coaches.
Sir Kevin is the best 13 in the league (even though he spent 2011 at 6). Sinny has more skill in his little finger than O'loughlian will have. There isnt a player in SL who can throw a better miss pass to the wing than Sinfield. You dont win a Lance Todd and a Harry Sunderland trophy just by kicking goals.
I suppose you think Wellens is only good in defence, Bailey is just a cheap shot merchant, Briers just whines to the ref and Sam Tomkins is better than Billy Slater.

have a lie down after them bold bits.......
Trent was the ball player in that team plus he didnt have McGuires pace to support the player, pretty simple really.

Edwards might not have had great pace over a longer distance but he had the pace to make a break and the pace to get up in support and finish off someone elses break.
That said I still think Gregory was better.

| Sinfield is a great captain. His side will be on the back foot and he'll get them out of trouble somehow, but I really don't rate him as highly as some seem too.
If everyone was fit, he would struggle to get in an England XIII imho except for his goal kicking.
EDIT - I should of course say, in my England XIII

| Sinfield is a great club player, and if (huge if) England had a genuine scrum half of quality could probably work well for England. When he's asked to be the main playmaker at that level he falls short - but then again so have so many of our supposed best players.
Goodway vs wane is bizarre. Wane was a hardworking but undersized prop. Goodway was the prototype modern second row, who was way ahead of any other English second row at the time.
Hall is interesting. A year ago I'd have agreed that he was a good club player like Sinfield, but the way he took his tries in the internationals this year was a revelation. If he takes confidence from that and improves other areas like defence and running the ball from kicks, he could be a great winger in time.
As for halfbacks, the only ones the Aussies have rated at all over the last 30 years are Gregory (who worked wonders with Illawarra way back) and Goulding. Nobody else rates a mention.
Its hard to compare players from different eras. A lot of 'great' forwards from the past (even the 80s) wouldn't last 5 minutes now. Have a look at classic games if you can and you'll see no intensity, poor defensive lines, soft tackling and just a different game altogether. OTOH our fit and fast forwards would probably have been literally beaten up in the 60s/70s.

In defense of Sinfield here there is a big difference between club and international sport and sometimes people just dont transfer well. I hate to bring football into it but one of the greatest examples in present day is probably Jamie Carragher. A solid and well rounded defender that bosses the park but he just didnt play well for England.
