| Quote: Bridger "Why does anybody think that any of the players people are placing in their Wigan teams for 2010 or 2011 would want to come to Wigan?'"
That would be an issue but these teams are mere mock-ups/dream teams if you like. No-one has adopted the attitude that everyone will sign for Wigan if we showed any sign of interest just because it is Wigan.
But I don't believe that targets such as Andy Lynch or Kylie Leuluai (rumoured) are unrealistic.

Agreed
Most people use examples of players that are off contract or have a known fondness of Wigan
Prop, centre and SH is what we need though

| I think 3 players what would benefit our squad are Myler from Salford, Rob Purdham from the Quins and LMS, also off the Quins.
3 players who wouldnt cost the world, and are English and all have good looking futures ahead off them.

Well, to be honest mate I didnt really think off a starting 13 when i said them, hence the reason I said they would benefit our squad.
But from what Ive seen of Purdham, he seens a good player with a good rugby brain and also a good kicker if memory serves me right.

He is but I just don't see where he would fit into our squad. We already have Hansen, Hock, Lockers and Joel Tomkins who are all young Wigan lads and form one of (if not) the best back row in super league. With the likes of Mossop and Farrell coming through as well I think it would be unnecessary to get him

Pat under the high ball- when I think about it, it's more of a positioning issue. Watch the likes of Briscoe and Webb, as more natural fullbacks they read the game and positioning of the position better.'"
I was going to reply to you in the other topic regarding wigan players out on the lash but thats been blocked...
To me, you sound like a p!ssed off player who never made it big, never played anything higher than the reserves before finally being dropped.
I'm sorry, but it doesn't matter what job your in, Policeman, plumber, footballer, rugby player - It's a job at the end of the day, and everyone is entitled to chill out after a day at work...
Yep, i'll admit, if I seen a wigan player out before a game, i'd be p!ssed off at that, because that's just stupid... But after a game, regardless of a win/loss... it's fine. Simple as that.

You're off your head mate...he's one of the best positionally I've seen and I've been watching the game 20+ years!

Except that it isn't as simple as that.
Many top athletes abstain from alcohol entirely during the performing season, quite a few RL players among them. Ellery Hanley was a very good example.
Now I wouldn't go as far as to impose a drink ban on these lads. But as a way to maintain your fitness, it's far from being a fanciful ideal.
And though I've heard it said many times, it doesn't stack up to compare athletes whose vocation demands extreme levels of physical excellence with plumbers, policemen etc, who work at a far more sedate and physically less demanding pace. It simply doesn't, and I don't understand why people insist on making this daft comparison.
When you think about it, to go on the wagon during the RL season is not even that much of a sacrifice, given the potential rewards. Professional sportsmen have very short careers. If they want to be the best, they can leave the booze until they've retired - at the ripe old age of 30 in many cases, so it's not as if they'll miss out completely on the party animal lifestyle.
But as I said, it's down to the individual players. It's about how much they're prepared to give up to be the best at what they do. And if they're not prepared to go that extra dry mile, fair enough. Maybe it'll make no difference to their career, maybe it will. They'll never know.

| What about Darrell Griffin?
Fell out with Nathan Brown at Huddersfield thats why he didnt play the other week and they dont get on.
I think he has potential and runs the ball in really hard.
Thoughts????

Attitude is his problem but he can be a very good player.
I'd take a punt on him.

If our injuries get worse bring him in till the end of this season.
But long term we should be keeping well away.

| Griffin could be an inexpensive option at the moment if Hudds would look at loaning him out. We need to bolster the pack anyway and he's a big unit although reportedly not the hardest working.
Anyone got his stats?
