Quote: Wandering Warrior "Wouldnt call a new contract at a pap team a good headline. I would call it taking the easy option. Its not his country either!'"

Would that be that "Pap team" that Wigan could only scrape a 22:22 draw with away, ,and also that same "Pap team's" 2nd string that Wigan could only beat 26:16 at home.

Quote: Lazy J "funny thing is, this year I thought Roby had a cracking year, and thought it was his to loose, especially with his form at the tail end of the season and into the play offs.'"

Roby came second, Sam third.

Roby will win metre maker though. Wow! icon_wink.gif

Quote: tropical1 "Man of Steel is voted for by the players, not the media not the fans and not the powers that be, this award is players showing respect for their fellow professionals and for any of you who have ever played the game there is not better award to win at your end of season awards than players player. So it doesn't matter what the fans think this award is for players showing respect to the person they feel has had the best season.

The article is back on Had Sam played fair all year and not constantly tried to get penalties and his stupidity at wembley then he has the skill to have walked away with this award. Not really been wigans week has it lol

Stupidity at Wembley probably even he will agree.

As for trying to win penalties, no more than 99% of players in super league. Ive never seen so many dives at the play of the ball as i have this season. Its just Sam Tomkins is the most high profile player in the league and everybody watches his every move because he is ace icon_biggrin.gif

Its a nice award to win but its nothing compared to a championship or a challenge cup is it? Nobody can take them away from him and im sure he will get more.

Correct . And that is why he has taken the easy option and elected to throw his hat in with England , rather than fight for a place with N.Z.

Oh , and mabye make sure he is allocated another visa at renewal time eusa_whistle.gif

Yesterday really was an appalling day in the history of RL, though the incompetence, hypocrisy and Wigan hating of much of the RL world was actually very amusing.

First the story finally breaks that some clubs have been underpaying the revenue, a clear breach of rule A3:1 of the RFL's operational rules.

In other sports an announcement would be made by the governing body that the clubs concerned were being investigated for misconduct. But no, this is rugby league, and as others have said on this board the political reality of our morally bankrupt game is that they will not be punished for breaching A3:1 or for the obvious and very serious breach of the spirit of the salary cap that this failed tax avoidance constitutes.

And then we have the players' opinion on who the greatest player of 2011 was. What's their opinion worth? Well as a group who have taken years to form a union and given that many players - like turkeys voting for Christmas - still speak out in favour of the salary cap, despite the cap having reduced their wages collectively by more than 30% in real terms, I attach very little weight to what they say on any subject.

The truth of course is that Sam Tomkins played some breathtaking rugby this season. He's the best British player since Hanley and if he avoids injury and stays in RL he could well go on to top even the great man. Chase is a very good player and Roby has had an extraordinary season but Sam is just on a different level.

The reality is that this award, like much that goes on in RL, is a complete joke. So while the muppets in the RL establishment continue to damage the game with their politics, hypocrisy and Wigan hating, I suppose at least we can have a laugh at the expense of these total idiots. icon_lol.gif

As ever your deluded bitterness shines through.

Sam is a cracking broken field runner, the best in superleague no doubt.

He joins the line like no other player in superleague, and beats men with ease.

But what else does he do? His defence is not great, his decision making under pressure needs to mature and (as an eventual halfback) he wasn't that good at moving the team around the pitch, also his kicking game needed work.

He could be a great, literally great number 6 given time (and imo a coach who will help mature him).

To say it's too early to compare him to Hanley is an understatement.

You have just displayed in full why you are a laughing stock on other boards.

Lost count of the number of times this season when Sam was the last line of defence faced with a one on one he brought his man down to save a try .

I agree comparing with Hanley is a bit much to say the least but asking what else he does is just churlish and you know it. Next you will be telling me Myler is better icon_lol.gif

Thought Roby would get it.

Sam should have walked it.

Surprised Chase got it but he is a cracking player.

Ah well I won't lose any sleep.

From what i have seen he regularly makes bad decisions, what i am getting at i suppose is that as teams learn his play more he will probably find it harder to make the breaks, and if he loses a yard of pace, as all players do as years go on, he will need to develop massively in other areas to be considered a great over his career.

Who mentioned Myler?

So is there a chance of a proper response?
