One thing recent history will tell you that Saints will be competitive again and will be there and thereabouts.

Quote: saintnickle34 "
Sean O'Loughlin and Wilkin. We will have to agree to disagree here as sean has had one really good season and you won the grand final .But to say that he is the best loose forward in the world is ludricous.a good club captain who tackles hard ,but like tomkins he is a penalty machine whose discipline is woeful.
'"

So why is it that Wilkin gave away 7 more penalties in 8 less games than Lockers last year?

Quote: saintnickle34 "
Lima and Louis .I have not seen that much of lima but by all acounts he could be a great player for wigan .Time will tell (as it will with lms ,perry and soliola)
'"

So had you seen that much of Soliola then? As Lima was also a proven NRL performer and a NZ international, and that seemed to be enough to make Soliola better than Tomkins (despite SS looking pretty average in his brief appearances at the end of last year) whilst also playing out of position.

Quote: saintnickle34 "
Leululei and Eastmond.I saw leuileui for new zealand in the world cup and he was moved to hooker in the games because he was ineffective in the scrum half role( i think hes a better hooker, but not in robys league).Eastmond because of his age only burst on the scene last year and when fit showed the true potential that he had .Some of the tries he scored where sensational and if he can keep fit will become one of the best we have had.
'"

Only burst onto the scene in the last year? Is that 2010 or supposed to be 2009? He made 13 apps in 08, 14 in 09 and 19 last year. I agree he's showed glimpses of pure talent, but he's not done it on anywhere a consistent enough basis, whether thats through form or fitness I don't know. He's not been the all-conquering team leader that it was hoped by this stage (although I hope he becomes it).

Quote: saintnickle34 "Ok then i will respond.
Firstly Meli and roberts.Meli has been ever present in the last 3 seasons for saints scoring regularly over 15 tries a season and helping them to the last 4 grand finals and numerous challenge cup finals.Roberts had a great opening third of the season last year ,but that is all. Before last season he was average as were most of wigans players .
'"

So despite Roberts having a pretty good scoring record in the NRL as well, because he had 1 (that's right, 1!) average year before last year when he was destined to be heading to MOS before his injury struck. If he's fit I know who I'd have in my side.

Oh, and also Roberts' "average" year, wasn't that bad compared to Meli's consistent performances that year! rlWho was average?rl

When has anyone said they wouldn't be? I expect it to be very close this year between Saints, Wigan + Wire.

I was merely responding to your completely blinkered claims about the ability of some of your players.

If I am being honest you guys are the team to beat,no doubt.
The new signings you guys have made have strengthened your team by quite a bit and you deservedly won the league last season.
If I was a Wigan fan and didn't win one of the two trophies on offer I would be bitterly disappointed.

They'll do nothing this year Wigan. Overrated is the word that springs to mind.

I think you'll find last year was a one off. And normal Wigan mid-table service will be resumed. You heard it here first.

Again let me respond to this. His Ability to come from full back and chime into the attack is probably only matched by Sam Tomkins in SL. When was the last time you saw Francis Meli score anything other than a barge over try or a walk in? Have you ever seen him create tries like Amos did at Wire when he cut the entire Wire team to shreds? And did the same against Cas too?

If most of Wigan's player's were Average, why did we get 4 players in the Dream Team? Man of Steel, Young Player of the Year, More selections in the England squad than any other team? And how did we managed to demolish everyone in our path to finish top and win the Grand Final? I struggle to see how a bunch of 'Average' players would do this?

Eastmond actually burst on the scene 3 years ago I think you'll find.

Remember this?
You have still not explained how you feel LMS is a better player than Lima though, i'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

You never even covered the Tomkins vs Soliola part, I assume that's because you agree with me?

To say O'Loughlin has had 'One good season' is laughable. In the years prior to last year, he was the backbone of our team, he tackled his heart out and put 100% in each and every week. He was selected for England duty every single year, tearing the Kiwis apart in 2008 [Remember that?] Getting man of the series. He was injured in 09 and had a good series again in 2010. If he has only had one good season, how did he manage to get a call up to England for the LF role, before Wilkin & Sinfield? And you failed to point out any facts that would back up your claim that Wilkin is the better player.

And as for Farrell, you keep saying 'Time will tell' but fail to explain why you feel Dixon is the better Player/Prospect

I look forward to your response to this post also icon_smile.gif

Well I really wish he would actually explain himself, instead of quoting crackpot stats [Eastmond making his debut in 2010 etc] If he had a valid honest opinion, I wouldn't agree but i'd st least respect his opinion!

icon_biggrin.gifOH: icon_biggrin.gifOH: icon_biggrin.gifOH: Give over, for my money he was better in 2009 than 2010 for starters, he's been picked regularly at international level since '04 and is consistantly at the top of our tackles count (top tackler every year since he became a first team regular in '03 except for '05 and '08 when he missed loads of games through injury) and pretty high on the metres count. Oh and as for penalty machine, let's have a look how many they both gave up last season:

O'Loughlin - 19 pens 24 games (0.79 per game)
Wilkin - 26 pens 16 games (1.63 per game)

If Wilkin had played a few more games last season he would have walked it to the 'most penalised player' title.
