| I was wondering when the old 'Long to Wigan' would finally come back
A big NO for me. We must be out of our minds to sign a 32year old scrum-half - and if this signing ever did come off (God forbid), it'd prove once and for all Wigan Warriors have never gotten out of the habit of buying 'over the hill' players.
Long will probably end up at Celtic/Salford who would be happy to offer him a 2year deal - those clubs need his experience and expertise (especially Celtic) a hell of alot more than Wigan do.

| Quote: Last Son of Wigan "I'm bold to suggest this, and I know there is another thread about Mr L, but I wanted IL (If he reads the threads on this site) to hear from someone who sees the benefits of Long coming to Wigan.
As always I will explain my comment.
We have often spoke about lacking experience in the halves, often looking over to Aus for a half to add experience (Orford Lockyer) When perhaps the experienced half we need is actually a Wiganer.
Lets look at Long.
Still in my opinion the best 7 in SL.
Has the experience and knows how to win a game.
Can control the team great organisation skills.
Great kicking game.
Still had a quick step
Great passer of the ball.
Half backs can play on into their 30s and do the job as they don't suffer a lot of impact in their game (like the forwards), and don't always have to be quick (like the other backs). A good 7 plays with his brain, not his braun, like Long does.
His influence on the camp would be that of experience and add a leadership quality which we would benefit from, especially a constantly improving Sam Tomkins.
For me Long and a good prop could well be the missing pieces.
NEW FB
Ainscough Gleeson Caromont Richards
Tomkins Long
NEW PROP Tommy Fielden
Hock Tomkins
Lockers
-------------
McClorum Feka (Mossop/Flanny/Farrell) Prescott
With players we can ship out for more cap space and youngster pushing for spots.'"
Worst idea EVER.
I NEVER want to see that long haired pr!ck in cherry and white

Exactly. No1 at wigan is stupid enough ( i hope) to sign him, and i don't think he'd come to us either.
Plus he just isnt good enough. If he's not good enough for saints he ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH FOR US!

I guess time will tell, if/when a new half is announced but if we do not have a 6 or 7 to partner Tomkins who is superior to Long i would be very disspointed.'"
No to all 3, if we cannot lure a top class 7 under the age of 28 then i would not bother and simply go with Sam and Lulu, no more stop gap players and no more players over 30 unless they are British.

Correct. Almost.
Can't think of many british players over 30 that i would want playing for wigan.

| Carl Webb would probably do very well in SL, although he's very much like Feka - impact player who tires quickly. Lenegan mentioned the other day he was looking into O'Meley and/or Mason. If O'Meley got his form back he'd be the best of the bunch IMO, as both Mason and Webb have 'form' of one kind and another off field.
Looking at some of the names mentioned on here does make me shake my head. Wigan may not be number one at the moment but you should be aspiring for nothing less, and average overseas players like Riddell, Smith, Phelps and co will not get you there. Neither will Sean Long.
Wigan are possibly one of the clubs who can benefit as the number of overseas signings falls, because, lets be frank, most of the ones you have are average at best. Even Richards (who seems to at least be popular) isn't much to write home about when you compare him to the best full backs.

It's a rubbish story really and a poor rumour. We could never afford both Fielden and Mason. Not only for money reasons either...
