| Quote: Magic Superbeetle "Easy to forget Welsby is still only 22; still plenty of development in his game and he knows that. Given Wigan fans saw the rise of Tomkins (the talented one not the other two) I’d have thought Wigan fans would have understood that maverick and smart arris are the different sides of the same coin, depending on the colour of your shirt. Like him or loath him his time is now; he’s top of the try assist charts, becoming ever increasingly senior in the Saints squad and his personal highlights reel is basically complete already, scoring down under in the WCC, at Wembley and the match winner in the 2020 GF.
Obviously being in the hunt for a historic quadruple makes next week huge for us, but it’s the trophy of least concern for me. Given how congested the league is at the moment I don’t think the usual “just get top two; get the home semi and plan from there” is going to work; it’s going to take a run of performances and most likely finish top. We have both an advantage and a hinderance at the moment with the game in hand. If us being knocked out the cup gets the game arranged as not a midweek dirge, then that’s a small silver cloud.
We won the GF last year with long term injuries to Grace, Dodd and Walmsley. The year before it was Fages and Bentley. If we lose Lomax, of course it’s a blow, but we adjust every year, and it’s far more about combinations of injuries which become a concern. Last year ahead of the CC semi we lost Hopoate, Bennison, Dodd and Lomax’s left arm all in rapid succession. The spine was our weakest depth already and we ended up with Davies in the halves and having to hide Lomax at fullback so he avoided contact on his arm. Still took a poor individual performance from a kid on the wing and a rogue one armed pass from Lomax for us to lose that day. Fast forward and we beat Warrington with basically our first choice pack and backline missing. Attitude is everything at Saints this year and we should be confident if Wellens gets that right (that I am less convinced on…) irrespective of who is or isn’t on the field'"
Historic?

| I just want to apologise for the post I made last night. The word “despise” is a strong one and it was never my intention to stir up any hatred.
Don’t get me wrong I love the way that Welsby gave it back but suggestions of real hate are way off the mark. As a Sport we pride ourselves on having more respect than football fans
I do enjoy debating stuff on here. Naturally I’ll disagree with others and they’ll disagree with me but that’s to be expected.
The spat with Phuzzy that started Friday became a bit heated and that’s not really what it should be about and derailed a thread that in the main has been exactly what it should be- Wigan v Saints discussion.

Obviously I can only speak for myself Stu but apology accepted. Good of you to hold your hands up.
Personally I like it when opposing fans come on and join in on debate without being too jaundice in their views.
As a sport historically we generally have respect within players and spectators but increasingly I see traits that for me are unacceptable in sport such as feigning injury, constantly questioning the referees decisions and verbals between players when players make errors. All childish and all should be punished by referees. It’s a slippery road one way road and it’s a road we are currently driving down with our eyes closed.

Agree with this and apology accepted by me too. Cheers Stu.

| Great interview with Ryan Brierly who was comparing the barmaid abuser with Jack Welsby. Welsby is only 22 and has won more than the barmaid abuser ever will.
I get Wigan fans have a love in for him because he was the last decent player they have produced (15 years ago) whilst Saint have produced countless more but it’s time to let go

Are you sure he wasn't comparing Welsby to the barmaid ?

And nobody has won as much as the great Sean Edwards and never will.
You obviously don’t know what you are talking about, how many Wigan players have been signed by the Aussies compared to Saints and how many have played for their country in the last 15 years.

| Unluckiest side in the league are Saints. They have only been at 50% again tonight according to the webbed fingered forum and their opposition are playing the best they have ever played. Seems to happen to them a lot. Maybe someone should just tell them they are nowhere near as good as they think they are........... and have an alarmingly ageing team.

You can’t blame saints fans. They have won SL 4 years in a row and are world champions. They expect quality. Wigan fans are just happy if they beat St Helens once in a season.
That’s the difference

You're lucky Griffin had his brainfart otherwise you'd be out of the cup and stuck in mid-table obscurity, congratulations on raising your game against us the other week, I hope you enjoyed your cup final

The difference was that Saints were missing their best two forwards - Makinson and Percival.
What was it like in Hull tonight?
