I know that if I was a creditor who was looking to get my pence in the pound back, I'd be livid that he turned down the cash offered by IL for the stadium.

The admins have taken a gamble on a future sale, but it's a very uncertain world. An offer was on the table and it should have been taken imo.

I don't feel I understand it well enough to criticise or praise them to be honest. It seems like they take a hell of a lot of ill-informed abuse and probably have their hands tied to some extent in terms of being able to explain why they have done certain things whilst respecting confidentiality of ongoing sensitive discussions. If the Spanish deal was obviously doomed, why did the Spanish people invest significant money in it?

And Stanley is worse than him.

From what I understand, Whelan is suffering from a serious medical problem which is not the same as going "potty" as you seemed to think.

I may be critical of him over his ownership of the Stadium, but I have also have respect for anyone suffering from a serious medical problem.

The club itself (players) is a money pit that never makes money. No investor would buy them, even at the nominal £1, as they'd be funding losses for a long time.

The stadium however, whilst losing a bit, has a potential to make a profit much sooner - hence why its being kept as part of the overall package. Without the stadium as part of the deal, the Latics would be liquidated.

It fell because the well known person who was remaining in the background but investing most of the money withdrew his backing after the administrators had accepted the spanish consortium offer which resulted in the football authorities not accepting the sale as they were then left in the position of not having enough money to complete the purchase.

What criticism this administration company has received has been jusitified with the way they have handled or should I say mis-handled the sale.

So you accept he sold the club due to said condition and not because he got bored? Or will you shift the goal posts again?

Do you accept that he started process of selling the club after the 2013 season by selling the better players on dearer contracts to lower the wage bill and make the financies of the club look more atrractive to potential buyers.

Nothing to do with getting bored, more to do with club losing money in the Premiership and getting rid like he did with his Supermarket and JJB businesses when he could see the writing was on the wall as more recent events have proved.

I would also imagine Latics lost most of their best players after 2013 because they got relegated, didn't come back up and then got relegated again.

If he wanted to take money from them why did he spend the parachute money as opposed to pocketing it?

Wasn't he involved at Leeds as well years ago (the football club I mean)? I'm pretty sure that didn't go well as they lurched from one farce to another in admin.

Radio Manchester says that a take over is imminent with Saudi backing talks in final stages .

Administrators for League One Wigan Athletic are in advanced talks with a consortium led by Bahrain businessman Talal Mubarak al-Hammad.

While no deposit has been paid and talks are continuing with other parties, it is regarded as the most plausible option for the beleaguered Latics since a deal agreed with a Spanish consortium collapsed at Christmas.

The English Football League are being kept informed about the situation.

It is understood talks have progressed under the agreement of anonymity but five names, including Al-Hammad, have been registered on Companies House as directors of a company called Phoenix 2021 Ltd.

These include Wigan finance director Richard Bramwell.

The club has been in administration since June and were relegated to League One as a direct consequence of the 12-point deduction imposed.

EFL rules prevent any club from starting successive seasons in administration, so time is ticking for the situation to be resolved.

The takeover looks to be a formality now (famous last words) with the administrators and the new owners announcing that it’s all agreed, deposit paid and signatures in. Just waiting for the membership from the EFL to be completed and it’s done.

Completely agree. Happy to see Latics saved and deservedly kept in the professional leagues. It would have been an absolute travesty to see them go under. Hopefully now that’s sorted they can re build.
