| I think the biggest thing we can take from last night is they're not in our players heads anymore, let's be honest since the last time we beat them we haven't even be competitive against them, and for most of those five games we've looked beaten before the kick off, that's gone now, Walmsley will undoubtedly improve them but they're nowhere near as far in front of us as they were last year.

| Quote: Phuzzy "The fact that he even includes Powell in that list shows how out of touch and one-eyed he is. He's thinking of the Powell of 2 years ago, not the one we've seen under Lam. It would be like including the Holbrook era Peyroux in a similar list because he was pants under Cunningham.
It's amazing just how blind some people are though. His team includes Amor, LMS, Paulo and a handful of considerably less enthusiastic kids than ours. That's before I get to Grace; the man least able to handle pressure in the whole of superleague! If ever I've seen a flat track bully he would be it. Any pressure whatsoever and he falls to pieces!
We've been discussing a joint side on recent posts. On last night's performance it would look pretty much like Wigan with Walmsley and Makinson.'"
Can you imagine the hype from the sky lads had Grace scored the try Bibby scored? Every try he scores is apparently a worldie. Bill Arthur was itching for him to make a break last night.

| Quote: Phuzzy "Fair comment but I'm not sure I agree. Walmsley is good, no doubt about it, but he's not Wally Lewis as he suddenly seems to have become. He's hard to neutralise but it can be done. Warrington have done it several times and I reckon defence like ours last night would have gone a long way to doing the same. Across the rest of the park they were totally outplayed. I'm not convinced that one man makes up the difference. Especially if he's a 40 minute prop. Ateotd they're not even on the pitch for half the game so, unless you have the rotation to cover (they don't) the intensity will undoubtedly drop when he's not on.
I guess we'll find out.'"
I’d feel more confident if we had Havard in for Clubb or Flower I think. That feels a better balance to me. We’d have Bullock making ground, Singleton roughing people up and then once Bullock went off, we could bring Havard on and still have a guy capable of making good ground through the middle. I just worry Walmsley makes his usual 150 metres, which in turn gives room for others and we get pinned in our half. Our two bench props last night made 15 metres (Clubb) and 38 metres (Flower) each. Even with Walmsley off the pitch you’re risking getting squeezed in that period and unless you’ve dealt really well with them in the first 20 mins, you could be in trouble. I fancy us out wide against them mind and would probably look to push the ball a bit more once he’s back in their side.

How much of a point did John Wells make of saying Coote is the best full back in the league as well?! Only said it 15 times.

Oh absolutely. But I was thinking more in terms of us having Havard or a fit and firing Burgess (if that's going to happen) to counter the return of Walmsley. We also have Manfredi due back and, although he hasn't been at his best this year, he still gives us more go forward than either Bibby or Budgie. I guess what I'm saying is you can't just factor in the return of Walmsley in isolation. We also have players who would make a difference to come back, especially in the forwards.
Incidentally we're completely disregarding the return of O'Loughlin too because of 1 bad game. An on form SOL can take Saints apart on his own.

Haha..I noticed that! Something along the lines of "it's only a matter of time until he makes a break". More like "it's only a matter of time until he completely falls apart and becomes a liability!"

Let’s hope so. There’s a good group of players here and I think they’ve lacked a bit of belief at times, so that will help. More games as good as that will do. It’s the type of game to make you fall in love or back in love with the sport. A lot of these lockdown games haven’t had you itching to get back and watch matches live but that one did with bells on. How good would that away end have been last night? And then the train back to town....can’t wait for days like those again.

I nearly commented last night about Clubb but I didn’t want to dampen the evening after a much needed and deserved win
I couldn’t really understand why he was selected and thought his contribution was baffling

I think he picked up another injury. Sure he was down getting treatment at one point and he did very limited minutes. I get he’s popular within the squad and I don’t like some of the stick he gets because he’s been a good servant for us but he’s not worth a spot currently.

I said to my son that he must have picked up an injury
When Havard gets back Clubb surely cannot get in the 17

I think it might be wise to bring in a few fresh faces next week after last nights huge effort - Burgess, Shorrocks, Clark, Smith etc. Though as I'm typing this I guess it depends on what happens with the fixtures - if we find ourselves in a playoff week then it would have to be first choice of course.

I love comments like this, 'They led through a Coote try at half time but Wigan's aggressive pack got on top and cashed in on Saints errors'. However, it should have read 'Saints errors that Wigan forced'.

Think the main talk is of a 6 team play off, which would mean we’d get the first week off if memory serves (presuming it ends now and we’re top two). It would be 3rd verses 6th and 4th verses 5th in the first week with losers out and the winners playing off to see who plays the loser of 1st vs 2nd on the last weekend. The winner of that 1st vs 2nd game in Week 2 would go straight to the final.
Think I’ve got that right and if it is that and I have, then we’ll get a natural rest at some point. All guesswork for now.

| Quote: stpatricks "Singleton did a great effort in winding up the Saints pack lots of niggle without going over the top. The Redvee mob already have him as a villain which shows he’s done his job.'"
Let's be honest - other than getting in an incredibly placid winger's face Singleton was rubbish. Having now seen the stats he had the worst tackle completion of any forward (missing 6 despite only making 24), worst average gain of any forward (3.67 metres, wow), no busts and an error. and a penalty thrown in Mr combined team was pants.
I hope he has a long career in the cherry and white
I think people are going OTT about the respective packs - we had more defence to do as a result of too many silly errors but the pack still made more yards than their opposition but the team dropped the ball cold too often despite playing very conservatively.
You can say that is aggressive defence but if you actually look at the errors the majority weren't anything to do with aggressive defence and were just really sloppy - I think wigan were more switched on and "up for it" on the back of the run of derby defeats - can't wait for the next instalment!!!
