| Quote: Rogues Gallery "John Dorahy was a joke who took over a world class side and almost wrecked it.
Brian Noble took over a side about to be relegated, saved them, then has took them to two Challenge Cup semi finals and two Superleague semi finals.
Now go and figure who
a) Had the most difficult task
b) who is the better coach.
Where is Dorahy now?
You would like Justin Morgan as coach.
What has he won?'"
I take exception to the fact he saved Wigan personally, i see it that the sacking of Millward saved Wigan.
The fact that a coach has won nothing does not mean they are a bad coach, it is about maximising the potential within the team.
Brian Smith is not a bad coach, Mike Gregory was not a bad coach.
I think you cans see when things are right and wrong for much of his time at Wigan under Noble the team has looked badly coached.

Yes,
He's taken us from relegation candidates to four semi finals (maybe five) and that with points deductions for salary cap breaches.

Call me old fashioned but I remember when success was measured on winning trophies, not on losing semi finals.

And Noble has won more than any other current Superleague coach.

but not with us.
I know what your saying, we're definately in a much better position overall as a club. But the problem for me is that we have had a top 2/3 team this year and last, even more so this year.
We know Noble can get the team to perform in the 2nd half of the season, but why can't he do it in the first half? if the team played all season like they did now, we'd be top of the table and noone would we asking for noble to be sacked.
The team is showing it has had the ability all along, but why can noble only harness it towards the end of the year!

If I wanted to support Bradford I'd go to Odsal.
Wigan have underachieved over the course of the last three seasons under Noble - his record at Bradford I couldn't give a toss about because it has zero affect on his Wigan record.
I bet you wouldn't have defended Millward by using his Stains record would you?

We need stability
John Darahy won trophies, did that make him a good coach?

For stability read mediocrity.
I have ambition, you obviously don't.
And I'll say it again because you may have missed it - I bet you wouldn't have defended Millward by using his Stains record would you?

But dont all coaches get judged on previous success? Thats how they get hired or avoided?
Saying you couldnt give a toss about Nobles success at Bradford is like saying you should ignore the fact that Wayne Bennett has had unmeasurable sucess with Australia, Brisbane and New Zealand, all because they were just with another team.

we're talking about how Nobles tenure at wigan should be judged.
People are still talking about him being the most successful coach in sl history, but he's not won anything with wigan.

The point being I'm not going to measure Noble record at Wigan by what he did at Bradford - which is what was effectively being done. Was I happy when we got Noble - yes given his Bradford record. Am I happy with Noble's Wigan record - no and what he did at Bradford isn't going to change that.

| Quote: Wigan/Leeds Andy "Even in a top 8 system the higher up the league you finish the better the advantage. Yet again we will finish lower than our true position and make it harder for ourselves than we should have done. That will be the third season running we've underachieved in the regular rounds and had to live with the consequences.
i.e. Noble has not done his job properly if he had we certainly wouldn't have lost 10 games this season and now be relying on Hull KR to go on a run of bad form so we can try and make the top 4.'"
Bang on.
We seem to have this same argument each season at Wigan. We get to the tail-end, the team run into form, and it changes some people's minds about what the problems are. In particular we hear this theory that Noble coaches his teams to only play well at the end of the season.
Does anyone really believe that's even possible? If so, doesn't anyone think that it would actually be completely ridiculous?
Why on Earth would a coach prepare his team to play badly for a sizable chunk of the season? It doesn't make any kind of sense.
My view is that it's an invention of fans who are seeking any explanation they can for Wigan's bizarre see-sawing form. The more likely cause in my leyman's opinion is that the team aren't prepared properly pre-season, and come out for the first couple of months half-cooked, but gradually put it together themselves during a succession of tough matches, many of which are mind-concentrating defeats.
That's at least as good an explanation as saying that Noble plans it this way.

But people are suggesting Justin Morgan as a good example but going off what you are saying he hasnt won anything with Hull KR (bar NL1) so he hasnt had success with them.
However if you look at it that he has turned an average side in KR around to be a strong top end team, surely the same can then be said about Noble in that he has turned us from Bottom of the table to top 4/5.

that's all i can think of.
That and the fact that certain players only started to play when the weather improved. A decent coach wouldnt let them get away with that.
As good as barrett was you knew if it was raining he was unlikely that he was going to play as good as we know he can.
