Welsby was outstanding. I love it how he gives it to the Wigan fans. For a Wigan lad and a Wigan fan as a kid he absolutely despises them now and it’s great to see. Same with Makinson in many ways. Not sure what that sex offender song from the Wigan fans was all about. They give him loads and he gives it back.
I’m really pleased that we seem to (in Wellens words) have simplified our game and gone back to basics. We must be the easiest team to coach with the intensity we play at and the structures we have. The last two weeks we have looked back to our best.
I’ve said before that Woolfs team didn’t need much tweaking yet Wellens seemed set on putting his own stamp on the team and it wasn’t working earlier in the season although to be fair we had injuries and suspensions then.
Huge game for Wigan next week. Massive.'"
I think you’d be better posting on the St Helens board.
We are enthralled to read that Welsby despises Wigan fans. Kind of comment you’d expect from a 15 year old

Dominant after the break but our spirit seemed to be broke by some incredible first half calls. Saints have always been the team to beat but we’ll see how we stand come the end of the season. The highs and lows of the season are in full force but I’d love nothing better than for other sides to start writing this Wigan team off. We don’t bang on about player absences like other clubs, so it’s never taken in to account during the coverage but once we’re more towards full strength in the forwards and we can lay a better platform for the backs we have, I’m confident we’ll trouble teams.
It is a very long season.

I meant directly after the game when emotions are running high. I’ve waited 24 hours to post. I’m also posting on a Wigan v Saints discussion thread so I’ve hardly derailed a thread.
I’ve tried to give my opinion on Wigan before and have been told metaphorically to shove it hence posting comments about my own team.
I thought the idea of discussion forums was to hear the opinions of other fans? I welcome Rogues Gallery posting on Red Vee even if by his own admission he is occasionally on the wind up.
I’ve a lot of respect for Wigan. One of my best mates is professionally involved there however I’ve got to be honest those sex offender songs last night and the behaviour of some Wigan fans has got me annoyed. Hence my venom in my last post.
I’ll gladly walk away if people don’t want to discuss RL with non-Wigan fans. Not a problem

Give over. The same referee that hammered us at home to Leeds is now pro-Saints and anti Wigan? You were never going to win that last night. Quite how you hung on in that first half was a surprise.
You scored a beautifully well-worked try and then it was only a slip from Welsby and a last minute consolation try that was your other points. We were dominant as the stats show. Walmsley was only 40m from making as many metres as your entire pack.
I’ve no doubt you’ll be stronger with a fully fit team but no ref would have changed the result of that game last night.

Welsby was a bully at school Stu until he met his match. He can talk the talk but can he walk the walk? I suggest he may want to rein it in if he wants to enjoy his leisure time in Wigan. Tommy doesn’t dislike Wigan and he never has, you are making it up!

Unlike Saints fans and the Saints club (who constantly moan about him) I’m just judging Kendall on last night and he was appalling in that first half. We were the masters of our own downfall early doors, with silly mistakes and we paid the price but we got a foothold and started to trouble Saints but some of the calls were simply shambolic. The scoreline at half time was deflating and ruled us out of the contest but I saw enough in that 40 minutes to stay really positive. All the momentum was with Saints going in to the game and we could’ve folded early doors but as it was, we stuck right in there and every time we got momentum and looked like gaining some sort of defensive edge, we got pinned. That penalty on Ellis was a case in point and then Paasi should’ve been carded but wasn’t and he went on to have a cracking game.
You know me, I’ve never wrote Saints off. I’ve always said your favourites but I have said that week to week intensity has probably gone and I stick by that. By the same token, I ain’t writing us off either. If we can get our act together in the forwards, our backs will trouble anyone. It was just flashes last night but clearly we have the pace to get at you and we’ll have a say yet.

A decent effort from your lads and the team to beat without question.
Welsby is decent player but every game makes mistakes. I like maverick but not a smart arris. His time will come.
Next week is huge for you too unless you think Hull is a walkover. I think you’ll win but if you turn up just expecting a win you never know. Is the CC now a sideshow? Maybe it is.
Enjoy the win but say take Lomax out your starting 13 would you still be as bullish?
Interesting times.

Not sure what the sex offender song is about myself and it is unacceptable. Maybe as unacceptable as the the crap Saints fans sing when they chant " you're interbred you Wigan scum". Or does that not register on your scale of Piousness.
I also like how you finish with the comment of it being a " Huge game" for Wigan next week. As though a quarter final of the cup is only on a small scale to a club as illustrious as yourselves.

| I wouldn't bother with Stu guys. He's finally shown his true colours. I'm just surprised at myself that I got taken in by him for so long. Typical Redvee dick and nothing more. Fancy a grown man revelling in a twentysomething manchild "despising" other human beings because they support another team. Classy. Very classy.

Easy to forget Welsby is still only 22; still plenty of development in his game and he knows that. Given Wigan fans saw the rise of Tomkins (the talented one not the other two) I’d have thought Wigan fans would have understood that maverick and smart arris are the different sides of the same coin, depending on the colour of your shirt. Like him or loath him his time is now; he’s top of the try assist charts, becoming ever increasingly senior in the Saints squad and his personal highlights reel is basically complete already, scoring down under in the WCC, at Wembley and the match winner in the 2020 GF.
Obviously being in the hunt for a historic quadruple makes next week huge for us, but it’s the trophy of least concern for me. Given how congested the league is at the moment I don’t think the usual “just get top two; get the home semi and plan from there” is going to work; it’s going to take a run of performances and most likely finish top. We have both an advantage and a hinderance at the moment with the game in hand. If us being knocked out the cup gets the game arranged as not a midweek dirge, then that’s a small silver cloud.
We won the GF last year with long term injuries to Grace, Dodd and Walmsley. The year before it was Fages and Bentley. If we lose Lomax, of course it’s a blow, but we adjust every year, and it’s far more about combinations of injuries which become a concern. Last year ahead of the CC semi we lost Hopoate, Bennison, Dodd and Lomax’s left arm all in rapid succession. The spine was our weakest depth already and we ended up with Davies in the halves and having to hide Lomax at fullback so he avoided contact on his arm. Still took a poor individual performance from a kid on the wing and a rogue one armed pass from Lomax for us to lose that day. Fast forward and we beat Warrington with basically our first choice pack and backline missing. Attitude is everything at Saints this year and we should be confident if Wellens gets that right (that I am less convinced on…) irrespective of who is or isn’t on the field

Have you took over the role from Stu explaining why Saints are the goat re-all the injuries you get especially the one with Lomax losing his left arm.
