| Quote: up and under "No I dont see a problem with the south stand at all, the stewrds have thrown the occasional person out, yes - but that is to be expected. They are not coninually running up and down the stairs. We as supporters are all ready videoed on cctv from the moment we sit down, so any trouble can be icolated as soon as it starts. Yes thet are loud and rowdy at the back of the south stand and im glad. If it wasnt for them sometimes drumming up the chants, im sure we'd go for whole matches in silence. They put time into getting new songs going. Last match was hillarious with oloughlins song/amos song. Im glad there there - and no i dont see a problem, let alone deny it.
people are using this mix up in communication to just have a go.
Oh and by the way, For a thread to be titled "How thick/ignorant are some wiganers?" I Find it quite hillarious the number of posters who clearly have no idea what Chav stands for.
Just for the record Council House and Violent! How does that fit any of the groups you are running down, on this thread - it doesnt. In my opion alot of you lot look like the ignorant ones.'"
Fair enough, what you find acceptable is different to what others find acceptable. Frankly, people being thrown in my opinion is not acceptable in the slightest and shouldn't ''be expected''.
The South Stand is recognized for being loud and vocal. Infact myself and many others have been involved with adding the flags to the stand to try and create more atmosphere. However, some of the behaviour by idiots who happen to be within the top, middle section of the South Stand should not be tollerated and it needs to be stopped. Nobody is saying that everybody in that section are chavs/idiots but if you or someone you know is in that section then tough, trouble happens there hence why many people collectively call that group ''chavs'' and they will ramain to be branded ''chavs'' so long trouble continues in that section. It's the duty for people within that group to salvage their reputation by weeding out the idiots or simply don't sit near them.
Simple as that.
I really don't understand what your argument is? It isn't this forum that has labelled & pin-pointed that section, it's Wigan supporters in general as it's a clear, obvious and well documented problem area.

| Racist chanting, laughing at a serious tribute to our troops and constant swearing and drunken behaviour in a family stand is ok is it?
what? do we go to the same matches? racist chanting.. i can only presume you are referring to st helens chants. If so we clearly have a different perspective.
As for drunken behaviour, beer/alchol is sold in the ground. Ive seen people drunk, but over the years of attending, but on average more adults, than from the group you are referring to.
Yes I think the running of these events should be brought up in the fans forum.

| What regiment were those troops marching along the touchline in front of the Boston Stand before the game?
A guy at the side of me said that they had just got back from Helmand but some of em’ only looked 12 and couldn’t march in line. Tell me that’s not what we are pitching up against the Taleban these days?

You don't even know what you're talking about half of the time.
And BTW, droning "Barmy Army" out for 20 minutes doesn't count as singing, or chanting, or trying to improve the atmosphere in any way, shape or form. It does the complete opposite. Though the idiots that start it and carry it on wouldn't realise that.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

I think you are only trying to defend the people at the back of the south stand because that might be where you sit with your mates and you feel these comments are being aimed at you. Now I don't for one second think you are a violent person or anyone to cause trouble but you must agree that there is a slight problem with some of the behaviour?

Oh really, well thats good we've got that cleared up then. Any future chants to be passed through the 'whats ok' comittee. Cause whilst not my cup of tea, barmy army is fine by me, as kevin iro - or any other chants.
My motivation for defending is more along the lines that i really dont see the problem. The mess over minutes silence was really just down to people getting it mixed up over communication. The young people at the back have been respectful over every other minutes silence i can recall.
I have said previously we used to sit in the west stand, and have seen this same attitude over having a blow horn (sold officially once before aints derby). We where told to not bring it, then aiving our flags was aproblem. Unless you sit still and just watch the game its a problem. A guy used to boo when opposite side took a kick,..he was told to shut up. One fella got a letter sent to his house..some kind of official warning. I for one dont want that attitude any where near the south stand, for the past 5 years have enjoyed the attude of tolerance in the south stand.
My attitude its a rugby match, watched by 18,000 people. There are many different sorts of folk there, and without the barmy army crew - the match would be overall a much duller expierience..in my opinion

In a nutshell, the club is aware of the problem, and things are being done - there is a permanent CCTV camera focused on the area (and others elsewhere of course), and on Friday some people were refused admission and some were ejected, but they can only act on specific information or observation, so again I urge people to contact the club if they can identify specific troublemakers.'"
Good work Geoff.

However, a number of electrons were mildly inconvenienced.

| On the original subject, I must admit to being extremely annoyed that people were clapping/laughing/shouting over the minute's silence.
However, rather than having to give separate instructions for each step, how about just reversing the order?
i.e. Hold the minutes silence, with the bugler starting the last post after the minute is up (the ref gives him a silent signal to start, instead of blowing his whistle).
On the other stuff, I'm glad that the club is rooting out the idiots. Hopefully they'll ban them for more than a couple of matches.
However, I also sit in the South Stand (although further down) with my daughter and several friends.
I have *never* heard any racist chanting (don't even know what "the Watene chant" is), and never had any problem with the kids at the back, other than being privately annoyed about the drunken scrotes that are clearly too young to be allowed near alcohol.

Cheers!
It wasn't so much about the "minute's silence" issues, which Mick concedes could have been managed better, but the general misbehavior of that small minority of [so-called] fans.
He's very keen on an element of self-policing (we were talking about the "old days" at CP, when they'd have got a "clip round t'earhole"!) to complement the clubs efforts. To some extent, it's a question of where to draw the line - we want to keep the atmosphere, but stop it getting so unpleasant that it puts people off. (having said that, we did agree that perhaps people who object to the noise might be better off in another stand...).
So..those of you who are normally in that area, please help the club out, either by having words with the offenders or passing on information/descriptions to the club.
Incidentally, on a similar subject, the guy from the Saints game who punched the steward has apparently been identified, and things are happening on that front.

Never heard racist chanting or the Watene one. One or two idiots blurting out something offensive at a game does not constitute a chant. There has been more damage done by folk stirring up that non-event than the moron who might have actually said it could ever wish to have done.

Underlined pretty much as I said earlier in the thread. As for the rest....oh for the days when you could clip someone round the ear!

| think i am going to be moving to the side of the south for the next home game although i enjoy the singing and "chanting" i dont not want to be branded as a chav. there are some genuine supporters back there but seem to bring along 'friends' who couldnt give one about the game and seems to cause the bother. like at bradford away this season, havent seen that group of 'fans' recently, maybe the club have banned these?
