Quote: DaveO "Life is also about integrity and honouring your commitments and in professional sport this supposed to be even more important. Not jumping ship the minute someone makes you an offer. In my industry we employ people on fixed term contracts and the ones that get taken back on when the needs arise are the ones who fulfil their obligations, not the ones who don't. Bad reputations are easily earned and hard to shrug off. The way people go on you would think he was in charge of a ramshackle outfit at the bottom of NL2 earning £100 a week, not head coach of Wigan.'"

Integrity and honour, 2 great aspects in life that unfortunately are far too often ignored by people especially in sport. Sport is judged on performance, and sport can be ruthless at times. If Maguire sees his contract out, has a poor season this yr and a poor one next yr does he still get the same chances he is offered now? No he doesnt. Yes Wigan head coach is a massive job but for an Aussie coaching in NRL is greater no matter how much we all wish it wasnt! If a coach gets sacked do the fans feel sorry for the guy that now has to go and find a job? No!! So why do some fans make out that its a crime to move clubs!!

Bitterly disappointed even though I expected it. He's done and great job and I won't forget that. My immediate thoughts are to this season and making sure this announcement doesn't derail any hope's we have for success this year. Looking to 2012 and beyond I'll trust Lenegan's judgement, after all he's been on the money so far.

Either way Wigan are at the top after a long time away, and If Lenegan feels anything like I do I'm sure he'll damned before a change of coach stop's that progress. The club as a whole is heading in the right direction and getting better all the time, and as sad as I am to see Madge leave, I'm confident we can continue to build on and off the field. After all we are only in our infancy of our rise to the top, and firmly believe that. We've got plenty of good years ahead, even without Madge.

Quote: DaveO "Same here. It didn't happen overnight so after a very short time with us he was negotiating his future elsewhere. His contract here wasn't a life sentence and if he'd stuck it out he could have gone back to the NRL easy enough integrity in tact. Not now, no time for lightweights who behave like that. He can leave tomorrow for me as his future focus will be Souths and what happens with them in 2012.'"

Agree. I am sorry to see him go, but another year with us and he could have gone to a better club than Souths. Clearly the dialogue has been on going probably since the Grand Final win. That's life and that's sport, so no good complaining we just have to get on with it. My view is that just like any job, once you announce you are leaving and as you work your notice, your thoughts naturally turn to your new job and you loose focus on the job in hand. The players too want to work for someone who is totally committed. i really hope I am wrong though about MM and he can still inspire the team and the backroom staff for the rest of the season.

Anyone else sick of Aussies using the family reasons excuse to go home early (excluding mark riddell) it seems as if maybe the way to go is to get the best british players in and leave Aussies in aus

I love Wigan RLFC as much as the next fan but

Being paid $1m Aussie dollars, getting to live in Sydney working with Inglis, Luke, Crocker, Taylor and Burgess at one of the NRL's most famous clubs owned by Russel Crowe is an offer 99% of the world won't turn down.

Madge has set us straight. He's put the foundations for success in at Wigan & I'm 110% confident Wane will take us to even greater heights.

Onwards and upwards again.

It will be Wane and rightfully so.

He had a decent case for getting it before Maguire took over and can't be ignored now imo. He's served his time as a u20's coach and as an assistant and now is his time to take on the mantle.

He'll kick us on imo.

Spot on, and if Madge can achieve the same with the Bunnies as he's done here then he'd be treated like a God by the Redfern crowd.

Quote: Steinlager "Edwards is far too inexperienced to take on the role of head coach, not just that but he is accustomed to the role of assistant in RU. I wouldn't bet against that kind of role, if anything, at Wigan.'"

Exactly.

I can't understand anybody that would want Edwards to get it ahead of Wane. Their both assistant coaches yet ones been in League for years and the other hasn't. Don't get me wrong the romantic in me wants to see Edwards coach us one day but if he got it now above Wane i'd feel bigtime for Shaun Wane who's showed us fantastic loyalty and passion.

That is a bit of myth. Most coaches see their contracts out unless they are booted out (and that doesn't happen often these days either). What Madge has done is the exception which is a big reason why there is no excuse for it IMO.

So he's run away before the brown stuff hits the fan? Not much confidence in his own ability has he? I really don't think he was scared of this happening at all.

Coaches do not get sacked under IL. Noble despite being dire at times was given his full contract to earn the right to another and was only let go when his contract was up. I think you will find any coach under IL will be accorded the same opportunity. It's clear he expected Madge to be here for at least three years. It is only fair the coach returns the commitment given to them and honour their side of the deal so the clubs plans are not upset.

Both Wane and Edwards are peas in the same pod. Both are born winners, they are loyal men who demand 100% loyalty and dedication because they don't and won't ever give anything less than that themselves. Although I'd say Edwards is more of a student of the game.

Both would be excellent head coaches at Wigan.

Has he used that as a reason yet? I've not read it if he has but then I have only just got back from Hull.

I can't understand people if they're suprised at him going back(not saying you are). He's an Australian coaching in superleague and has been offered the chance not only to go home but to go home and coach a huge club in the best league in the world. I liken it to an English football manager coaching in Germany or France and being offered the chance to go home and take over at a club like Liverpool. They're just not going to turn it down for various reasons.

Life goes on and we'll continue to grow under Wane.

So you were unhappy with Noble leaving Bradford? You'd rather he saw out his contract with them before moving to Wigan?

Whilst it is always disappointing to lose a good coach to another club we all knew that MM came to Wigan to get a chance as a head coach and that he would use his time at Wigan to further improve his reputation as an up and coming coach to help him get a head coach position in his native Australia. He has now managed to get that position on the back of helping to improve the culture at Wigan and guiding us to a first championship in 12 years in just his first season in charge. I wish him well when he he goes at the end of the season and hope he does a good job at Souths. At least now everyone knows that this will be his last season and the players don't have that uncertainty distracting them for the rest of the campaign and MM won't have questions from the media about where he will be next year before and after every match.

As for who will replace him it may be a case of Shaun Wane stepping up earlier than originally expected or us getting another head coach with Wane continuing to serve as assistant for a couple of seasons. However it pans out I am sure that Ian Lenegan will not rush the decision and will appoint the right man for the job and the club. He spent a lot of time doing due diligence and getting opinions from top coaches before appointing MM and I am certain he will do the same again and that we will have a coach from 2012 that will help the club to keep going in the right direction.
